How do I access my Spellbook?

Click on your wand located just under your user name and above the left side menu. This will open a link to your Spellbook, which contains all the spells you have learned to cast. You can click the book icon next to each spell in your book to see what the spell does, how long the effects will last, and how many Magic Points casting it requires.

How do I learn spells to use?

Students can learn new spells through Random Events (REs), completing homework, and generally participating throughout HEX. You may need to complete the same action multiple times to fully master a spell. Practice makes perfect, after all!

Some spells can also be learned from books. You can read each book once per 12 hours. Books do not disappear when read, so you can re-read the same copy multiple times. Buying additional copies of the same book, however, will not allow you to read it again sooner.

How do I cast my spells that I have learned?

Casting spells from your Spellbook will use Magic Points, which will then replenish over time back to your maximum amount. You can click HERE to read more about how Magic Points work.

You can cast spells on yourself or on other users, but please keep in mind that excessive spellcasting on a single user or continuing to cast spells on a user who has asked you to stop is considered harassment and will be handled accordingly.

Aciculis

Aciculis pins a single post to the end of one of your threads indefinitely. It must be a post you yourself have made in a thread that you created. When casting, you will be prompted to choose the post you would like to pin by entering its forum ID, thread ID, and post ID numbers. On desktop, you can also drag your wand over the post specific you would like to pin.

Clauditis

Clauditis allows the affected user to 'lock' events in their topbar so they stay in the notification area even when clicked:

You can then unlock the event again at any time when you are ready to clear it:

Evanesco / Revelio

Evanesco vanishes a thread so that it will not appear in the forum. Revelio counters this spell by revealing a thread that was previously vanished. When casting, you will be prompted to choose the post you would like to vanish or reveal by entering its forum ID and thread ID numbers.

Vanished threads do not appear on the main forum page for any users browsing the forum, but anyone who already has the direct link to the thread will still be able to access it! Please note that HEX moderators are still able to view and access Vanished threads as needed for moderating purposes. Vanished threads are not exempt from following all HEX and forum rules.

Prophetam Tempus

Prophetam Tempus temporarily gives the affected the user the power of prophecy!

This can come in the form of several different virtual site perks. You will be given three different options at random, and can choose one result. If you don't like what you see, you can re-roll the options in exchange for five of Trelawney's Fortune Token items. Keep in mind that the options are truly random, so there is a chance you may receive some of the options again!

Do spells follow the same rules for use as pranking?

All spell use must adhere to the same rules as listed under the the Additional Site Terms for pranking: Excessive pranking, pranking a user after he or she has asked you to stop, and creating "hit lists" of users to prank all are considered forms of bullying and will not be tolerated. Please follow the same rules when using spells.

Who is the Mysterious Stranger?

Not much is known about the Mysterious Stranger (thus the name). This shady character appears as a Random Event in a few different site stores, selling parts of different spells. How he acquired his wares remains unknown.

The Mysterious Stranger moves to a new location every day at midnight HEX time to avoid the prying eyes of Ministry regulators. You can buy a spell part from the Mysterious Stranger once every 12 hours, regardless of whether or not he has moved during that time. The Mysterious Stranger may also offer to give a spell part to a Hogfriend. You can choose any of your Hogfriends from a dropdown list, but be warned! If that Hogfriend already has all the Mysterious Stranger's spells mastered, he will not stick around for you to choose another.
