Murder under the Mistletoe

5:23 am - Sophia Oceanborn

Just days before HEXmas, the castle has gone haywire, with the Professors frantically scurrying around Hogwarts, each taking on new personalities and defending their innocence. That's right, a Professor has been murdered, or so it seems, and that Professor is none other than the exceptionally handsome Gilderoy Lockhart. Winner of Witch Weekly's Smile Award, this disastrous tale is filled with humour and folly.

Gather your notes, and interrogate each professor; you have now been promoted to detective status, and the whole castle is counting on you to solve this mystery. Trust no one, and keep an eye on that "ghostly" Lockhart, who is very solidly walking about the halls. With clues all around, your search begins! Are you up for the task at hand?

Join the Slytherin Staff in Murder Under the Mistletoe for a mysterious adventure of solving Lockhart's demise.

Molly vs. Fleur: Let the games begin!

8:37 pm - HEX Staff

As we all know, Christmas is coming and with that lovely holiday usually comes a barrage of charitable organizations calling out for help. Molly Weasley is responding to one such cry for help, a wizarding orphanage has requested cookies for their annual holiday party for the children.

Upon hearing what her mother-in-law was doing, Fleur has also decided that she'd like to help the children. We all know that Molly and Fleur haven't always gotten along, but surely they can work together for the orphans, right? Wrong.

What began as a loving charitable donation has now become a competition -- Who can donate the most cookies? Lines have been drawn and things have begun to heat up, and not just from the ovens!

Who will YOU be helping this year? Check out the Gingerbread Cookie guide, located here to find out how to help your favorite character.

RPC Updates

7:20 pm - Raventhefree

Snow crystals glided from the sky, sparkling like diamonds in the moonlight. The sight made Leslee want to go outside and build a snowman, or have a snowball fight with her older siblings who had returned from Hogwarts only two days ago. Movement outside caught the girl's attention. Witches and wizards all dressed up in fancy dress robes and ball gowns started to appear, as if someone had given them a signal. Leslee watched in awe at all the beautiful dresses the women and their daughters were wearing. Having grown up in a pureblood family, Leslee could easily tell apart the wizard-born and muggle-born guests. Both had their own special perks and uses of language, which is why she always looked forward to her family's annual Christmas Ball. Meeting new people and maintaining friendships has been something Leslee had been brought up with.

"Mistress is calling for Miss Leslee."

The girl spun around, not having expected to be spotted on the third floor of the mansion. Smiling at the house-elf, which had been sent to fetch her, she smoothed down the silken fabric of her burgundy-colored dress and reached for the outstretched hand of the loyal servant.

Join the RPC for December's Roleplay of the Month: The McKinnon's Annual Christmas Ball. You have until December 31st, 11:59 PM Hex time to complete your roleplay.

Best Plot: 5,000 Galleons and 2,500 HP (each)
Best Character: 5,000 Galleons and 2,500 HP
Best Overall Post: 5,000 Galleons and 2,500 HP

All roleplayers with qualifying roleplays will earn a ticket into our annual raffle. Prizes may be viewed here.

We've got a wonderful new activity for y'all to try out this year! Several users have expressed their love of the Plushies that HEX has created over the years. With that in mind, this year we've decided to create a way for y'all to attempt to build your own! So get to collecting all of the necessary supplies listed in the Plushie Guide and see if you can't create one of FIVE new Plushie items this year.

You never know what you'll get! ;)

Users will also be able to try their hand at growing their very own Poinsettias again this year. Once again you will be using space in Hagrid's Hut to grow several different colors of poinsettias, depending on what seed you plant. Some colors are widely available, while with others you'll have to do some digging around to find. Once again, please refer to the Holiday Guide located in the HEXmas forum for more information on this fun activity!

Arts & Graphics Forum Update :: December

9:58 am - deidra

It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
 - Dr. Seuss, "How The Grinch Stole Christmas."

We have made it through Halloween with many a scare, survived a turkey, cooked with care, and now it's Christmas, and nothing rhymes with that. Our halls are decked, or rather, our palm trees. That's right, we decided to take the holidays to someplace nearer to the equator! Beaches and eggnog go together just fine, thank you. For the graphics chalkenge, you get to play travel agent and whip up a brochure and try to convince us where to take a much needed vacation. The writing challenge is getting you up close and personal with Murphy's Law in the funniest way possible. The artwork of the month is better than freshly baked cookies and twice as sweet, so be sure to check it out! And we have one last task before the new year: vote for the Artwork of the Year!

As always, the winners will go home with galleons and House Points, and their entries will be published on the official HEX Tumblr page.
1st Place: 10,000 Galleons + 3,000 House Points
2nd Place: 5,000 Galleons + 2,000 House Points
3rd Place: 2,000 Galleons + 1,000 House Points

Goblins of Gringotts - Auction

3:08 pm - HEX Staff

The Goblins have always felt a deep connection with money, after all they mint much of the wizarding worlds currency. So it comes as no surprise that it makes the goblins of Gringotts VERY angry when people do not pay the fee for their vaults... So angry in fact that the Goblins of Gringotts have decided to do something they have never done, auction off valuables from the vaults that are over-due on their payments.

Now is your chance to win some of the more coveted items from these abandoned vaults! Head on over HERE to check it out. The first item up for grabs is the Elder Wand!

Keep an eye out, they will be holding these sales periodically in Goblin City

Are YOU ready?

3:46 pm - HEX Staff

The magical season of HEXmas is almost upon us! As usual we are beginning our festivities by opening up one of our best stores in Diagon Alley: Fred's Holiday Store.

Fred's will once again host the Gift Wrapping Service for users who wish to place gifts underneath their friends trees as well as sell the wrapping paper that allows users to send gifts for other reasons, the old-fashioned way. xD For more information on this service, please refer to the Holiday Guide Link in the HEXmas Forum.

Feel like playing a few tricks on some of your friends? Fred's will be able to help you with that this year as well! Check out the store in Diagon Alley to see what holiday prank items are in stock now. More will be added later!

Our Candy Cane Gram service is also returning this year, and is in stock now! This service is very similar to the Red Rose system and you can view all candy canes you receive here.

We also urge you to be on the lookout in your favorite stores. The end of the year is approaching and several businesses are looking to clear out their old stock.

There's more?

9:34 pm - HEX Staff

Christmas Spirit entries are now being accepted here. Approved Christmas Spirit submissions will show up as random events for everyone on the site. A page to view all of the submissions as well will be added when we get enough approved entries.

Christmas Trees are also being brought back this year. Everyone can have their own HEXmas tree in their user info, free of charge! To get a tree, you must go pick yours out at the Tree Farm. You can look at as many trees as you want, but whichever tree you do decide to chop down will be yours for the rest of the month. Presents can be placed under people's HEXmas trees.

Please note that gifts that are wrapped in your inventory using regular paper CANNOT be placed underneath these trees. Only gifts wrapped using Fred's special gift wrapping service may be placed under a friend's tree!

For more information on this please refer to the Holiday Guide located in the HEXmas forum.

We're starting things off with a bang by bringing back a few of our BEST traditions! All prizes for the HEXmas Lottery will be available on the HEXmas Lottery page here, as well as in the HEXmas Lottery thread in this forum.

Santa Daily Money is also making a triumphant return this year. Make sure that you check the page often, as you never know what offers Santa will make. The amounts will be all over the place for the entire month. The multiplier hour will still occur as well during all of this.
