Inter-House Debates

12:36 am - Xeneixian

We're a week into the school term, and that can mean only one thing: inter-house competitions are starting back up! With over 20,000 House Points up for grabs, the first competition of the 2012-2013 term will be a debate between Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Head to the Magical Theories forum to watch your teams debate the following topics:

Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin: The Sorting Hat is a Horcrux.

Debaters should please be aware that some minor changes have been made to the rules. First, time limits have been extended slightly. See THIS THREAD for the new time limits and the schedule for this term.

The other rule change has been edited into the Judging section. It reads:

The first thing you need to understand is that the judges will be choosing a winner. They will base their decision on many factors, most of which are detailed in this thread. They will not be choosing the winner based on points scored, but instead on their overall conclusions regarding the debate. Even if you are late and lose points, you can still win the debate if you were convincing enough.

Factors used to determine a winner include:
  • Strength of arguments.
  • Weight of facts/figures presented.
  • Persuasiveness of presentation.
Ultimately: who did the best job of presenting their case and had the most convincing argument(s).

Do you have an idea for a canon debate topic? If so, please owl it to motherof3, Shining Star, or Xeneixian. Try to follow our topic format (Resolved: TOPIC) like the one posted above. You will be credited on the homepage if we use your topic!

Eternal Glory

4:12 am - Jojo

Welcome, one and all, to our Gryffindor site wide event, Eternal Glory! It is my very great pleasure to inform you that our own version of the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at our party forum this term.
We have been planning a series of contests and much more that will keep you on the edge of your seat

There will be three initial tasks/contests that will take place from September 1-7. Once these are finished, the threads will be locked and entries will be judged. Then from September 10-14, the final task will take place. Anyone can join the final task. However, those who participated in the first three will hold an advantage.

So, do you think you have what it takes to become the ultimate champion? Do you accept our challenge? If so, then head on over to our party forum!
We hope this was enough to open your appetite and, above all, that you have a wonderful time in our site-wide event.

Good luck!
