7:01 pm - anacrusis

No doubt rumours have been circling about the galleons from the raffle and whether they were going back to the houses, hence we felt the need to answer these directly and reassure you all that your galleons are going back directly to the houses. All of the houses will be given 1 million galleons that is to be spent -only- on the incentive programs. If the houses do require more galleons at the end of the year then we will be topping them up. So, if you've been doing your homework go pester your houses for your rewards!

Minor Improvements to Classes

10:19 pm - HPfanextrm

From the Classes Registration, you may now choose to receive events when your professor posts a new lesson. If you're the type of student who is constantly checking the Classrooms page, looking for new lessons to complete, this may be just the sort of feature you were hoping for. By default, this setting is turned off. If you wish to receive these events, simply check the box next to "Notify me when new lessons are posted."

In addition to this, you can now easily determine which lessons you have completed from the main Classrooms page without even entering a class. This should save you the time of checking each class to be sure you've passed up the homework for the latest assignment. If you have completed a lesson, the word "Complete" will be displayed in green in the lesson information box to the right. If not, you'll see the word "Incomplete" in red.

Finally, your requests for a school bag to keep all of your school supplies and textbooks has been heard. We do plan to bring about an item to store your necessary materials in to prevent you from accidentally selling, trading, auctioning, or donating your class items in the future.

In a dangerous ploy for dominance, the goblins have swarmed from their marbled halls looking for vengeance. IHC - Winners Announced

8:05 pm - Xeneixian

The results are in at last! Our teams fought Fluffy, defeated the Devil's Snare, caught the right Key, championed the Chess Board, tackled the troll, and righted the Riddle. Gryffenclaw and Slytherpuff were tied. It all came down to the final task: The Mirror of Erised.

Our contestants were challenged to the ultimate test of teamwork and creativity. The users of the houses were also called in to show just how much spirit they had and how badly they wanted their house to find the Stone first. For, in the words of the late Albus Dumbledore: " Only a person who wanted to find the Stone - find it, but not use it - would be able to get it. That is one of my more brilliant ideas. And between you and me, that is saying something."

This was the closest Inter-House Competition to date. The point differences that listed out our winners were impossibly slim; never before has one house not won in a landslide. As such, I would like to congratulate EVERYONE who competed on a job very well done. All of you will be receiving a special prize for participating in this summer's IHC.

And now, without any further ado, I announce your winners:

In first place, earning 90,000 House Points and a Mirror of Erised for their house account we have SLYTHERIN!
In second place, earning 60,000 House Points we have HUFFLEPUFF!
In third place, earning 30,000 House Points we have GRYFFINDOR!
And in fourth place, earning a consolation 1,000 House Points we have RAVENCLAW!

As you can see, Slytherpuff has won the Inter-House Competition. To celebrate their victory, the members of the winning teams will each receive a vial of Elixir of Life. In addition, both Hufflepuff and Slytherin voted for MVPs from each house to receive a Sorcerer's Stone. Congratulations i3ingo and Alatariel Ancalime!

Another Year at Hogwarts

6:02 pm - Hpfanextrm

Crystal Phials As of this news post, classes have officially begun. We all know how eagerly you've anticipated returning to History of Magic for an exciting lecture or to Potions to really feel encouraged and applauded for retaining so much information over the summer break.

There will be a few changes to classes this year, however. In the past, many students have irresponsibly chosen to attend each class without their required materials. The professors have all agreed that they have allowed students to borrow far too many copies of textbooks that they never saw returned. They simply cannot continue to hand-out their own personal materials each term. Because of this recent change, you will now be required to posess all necessary materials for a particular class before being allowed to enter the classroom.

Collapsible Brass Telescope What does this mean, you ask? Well, it's quite simple, really. You will now be required to purchase textbooks and other supplies from Diagon Alley before you are allowed to attend your lessons. A master listing of items for each year will be posted in the Entrance Hall for those of you who misplaced the text lists owled to you a few weeks ago.

In addition to this, please be sure to familiarize yourself with the school rules posted here.

Without further ado, let the term begin!

The Whisperer Is Taking Applications

5:59 pm - Tori Tendleswift

There have been some renovations at The Whisperer this month! There are some major content changes underway and applications for new writers are now being accepted.

The Whisperer is looking for two to three new writers, depending on article availability, and wants to see if you have what it takes! So, if you would like to give it a shot, have the time, flexibility, and, of course, the motivation to write for The Whisperer, then please send in an application.

Here is what you should submit:

Name:
Age:
Time spent on HEX per week, approx.:
Have you ever written for a publication on HEX before?
Do you have any other writing experience (ex: in school, on the site)?

In addition, please submit a writing sample of something that you think would appear in The Whisperer (refer to the current issue here if you're confused or need inspiration). These samples do NOT have to be Harry Potter related. Feel free to write about whatever is your forte, however, do NOT send in an essay that you wrote for school, as it will not adequately show off your skills.

Please owl completed applications to The Whisperer by September 10th, 2010 at 11:59 pm HEX time. Accepted writers will hopefully be notified within a few days.
