The kaleidoscope of colours made six-year-old Owain want to reach out and touch the painting. Knowing he wasn’t allowed to, however, made him stop and he let his arm drop once more.

Since he was four years old, the boy had been simply fascinated by space. The painting in front of him made Owain think of an explosion of colours that could potentially be sucked into a black hole. Ignoring his twin’s voice, he reached down to pet his assistance dog, Apollo, and patted him on his head.

“Mum,” he said as he turned his head. “Come and look at this. It’s so cool. I mean, look at the colours!”

Lily is floating. She feels the cool steel in her broken hands. The Sword glinting in the stars could kill her – will kill her. It is what she wants. There is no home for her. No family. Space envelopes her, a wilderness like the deserts of home.

What will happen if this Sword penetrates her flesh? An indestructible object collides with an immovable force… immortality vs immortality.

Her eyes alight with pain as she focuses on the picturesque beauty before her. It is like God’s eye. A warm, welcoming pupil staring at her. Is there life beyond that eye? Is their world shaken by the apocalypse of her galaxy?

She is the only one. Alone, apart from that Great Eye, and

A monster. A beast. Circling her like a ravenous shark, a need to devour. She hears the swish of its gigantic tail shaking the stars of heaven. But not the stars in that Great Eye.

A choice: the overwhelming peace of death or her duty to life. Her grip tightens on the hilt of the double-edged sword. Her mind is made. She turns to conquer the beast.

She had finally found it the missing piece of the puzzle, the last piece of the map. This last piece contained the last numbers she needed to reveal the coordinates. The coordinates where she hoped she would find him...find James. He had been missing for 3 months, after his shipped was attacked and he and his crew taken captive by an unknown alien race. Zora had searched for information ever since and had found a map that, legend had it, would reveal the way to an ancient alien race hidden somewhere in the galaxy. Only thing was that it was missing a piece, a piece that had the last 2 numbers of the coordinates.

This was it, now she could finally find James. She punched the coordinates into the computer and hit enter. The last thing she saw before they jettisoned through space was a kaleidoscope of stars.

The sky opened up, the stars twinkling in the middle, guiding his eyes to the center of the universe. Around the sparkling stars, colors swirled, rushing around and around and around, pulling in any other star in its path. Nothing good could come of this. There was no hope for anyone entering the center of the beautiful star infested blackhole. At least that’s what Captain Kip Kelly referred to it as. His spaceship rested on the edge of its radius, carefully hovering away from any other ship or star sucked into its vortex. For weeks, he’d been searching for his first mate, his best friend that on a mission to fix one of the water tubes was sucked into its beauty without so much as a word.

He’d flown around the entire galaxy, wondering where he might’ve disappeared to, but never had he thought of the beautiful star infested blackhole. Now, if he was to find his first mate, he’d have to venture into the blackhole, a task no one had ever attempted. Captain Kelly headed to the exit door, in his full astronaut suit, ready to venture into the depth of the hole. Hooking himself to the longest rope they could find, he opened the door and floated out into space. Naturally, he floated closer and closer to the blackhole. Sucked in, with a loud vacuum-like sound, Captain Kelly disappeared. The rope snapped in two and the hole closed. It’d been searching for him all along. With that, it burst, color splitting everywhere, covering the whole sky around the ship. No one knew why it desired Captain Kip Kelly and no one ever would.

It had taken her weeks to complete the three thousand piece jigsaw, and when the finally piece clicked in, she looked at it with pride. She had never completed such a large jigsaw puzzle before. Suddenly, the image on the jigsaw started to move and swirl, and she was staring at it as if hypnotised. How can this be? she wondered as she felt her body pulled into the centre of the image and she was then flying through the gaping hole at the centre of the puzzle.

"HELP ME!" she cried, but there was nobody who could hear her desperate shrieking. She was surrounded by the deep, black, endless expanse of outer space.

Stella smiled to herself as she dabbed the paintbrush into the white paint and streaked it across the canvas, putting the last few touches on her painting. She had been working on this painting for days, and had finally finished. With nothing else to do in her house, and unable to leave, Stella had turned to painting. Her first task? Well, buy some art supplies. Her second was then to paint a gorgeous scene of an outer space galaxy. She had used pinks and purples and greens, adding a touch of yellow here and there, turning one section blue and another white. Stella had finished the painting off with a flutter of gold paint, and with the one last star she had just painted, her painting was complete.

Captain Aspen Tang smiled, as they were strapped into the seat of the Atlas. It was currently hurtling through the atmosphere of the small moon that they’d been exploring; they’d gathered sufficient supplies and samples for research, and now it was time to head to the next destination and explore. The G-Force was unbearably strong, and the small meal that Aspen had eaten earlier threatened to leave their stomach. A layer of sweat had formed around their entire body. Would this expedition really work? They turned around to look at the crew that was strapped in around them, faces wrinkled in pain. Anna, Xue Ling, Sadhvi- they were all in this together.

Suddenly, the Atlas lurched forward into space. The crew cheered- it was successful! “Look!” Sadhvi cried, pointing in front of them. Aspen dimmed the lights and the engines, wanting to see the view better. It was simply indescribable! Colours that Aspen couldn’t name and count were arranged into some sort of formation, outshining even the stars and distant galaxies. The vivid colours seemed to be drawn towards something, mysterious and dark. “It doesn’t seem to be a black hole, if it was we'd already be spaghetti,” Anna remarked, grinning besides herself. “It looks like an eye!” Xue Ling observed as she took some photos of the beautiful scene. Looking at one another, they had come to an unspoken agreement, brimming with excitement. “Prepare everything, be safe, not sorry!” Immediately, the whole crew got to work, preparing for the travel.
“Is everything ready?” Everyone nodded, strapping themselves into the seatbelts. The engines roared as Aspen maneuvered the Atlas towards the eye. “To another adventure! To the stars!” They cried, and the ship blinked before heading inside the swirl of colours, disappearing into the folds of hyperspace.

"It's not fair, Mom!" Charlotte yelled. "Alfie's being mean!"
Alfie Brown crossed his arms and stuck his tongue out at his younger sister. "Outer space isn't scary, stupid."
"Is too scary!" the six year old insisted. "Who wouldn't want a pretty space haunted house? It would have feathers in pink and green and yellow and purple and blue!"
"I wouldn't," Alfie said smugly. "It's not scary at all. We're doing something good, like monsters or ghosts. You know, stuff that people actually want to see."
Charlotte cried harder. "But I want to jump through the hole in space!"
"There is no hole in space," Alfie said meanly. "Stupid."
Just then, their mother arrived, early enough to hear Alfie's last words. "Alfred, go to your room," she ordered. He listened, sulking the entire way. "Don't worry, Lottie, you can dress up like outer space."
"Yay!" Charlotte cheered, clapping her hands. The earlier debate was forgotten instantly.

Emmalina Jean Granger loved astronomy having been fascinated by stars and galaxies and their meanings. She stared in up into the sky on the balcony top feeling the breeze blow in her hair. She was glad to be alive and well. She had seen lots of deaths in her past in the Wizarding War long ago. In the sky was a galaxy and looked ever so bright. A swish and flick of purple along with a dash of white was spread among the midst of the sky. In this flash of colors laid stars, stars which she knew were the people she loved. According to myths she was very sure. She reached out her hand and felt the cold breeze in the wind. Her eyes twinkled with the starlight and she felt safe that her beloved were watching of her.

It was a lonely night in the hospital. A little boy sat up reading. Whirrs and beeps emanated from the machines hooked up to his limbs , echoing with thin whispers of pages from the book . He hummed the Star Wars theme, squinting under the light as he moved his hands along the pictures of planets, galaxies and nebulae, each more beautiful than the last. “I wish I can go to space!” He whispered, smiling as he scanned the pages. He held his book to his chest as he turned off the lights, sinking into a deep sleep.

His eyes shot open, hearing a loud, weird revving sound. Suddenly, he saw a group of astronauts standing around him.“Where are we?” the boy asked as the spacecraft roared to life. “We’re in space!” One of them stepped into the light, and the boy gasped, recognising Buzz Aldrin. “We’re taking you on a trip around the galaxy!” Neil Armstrong cheered as he manuvered the spacecraft into hyperspace. They saw many beautiful things in the galaxy- the Crab and Eagle Nebula, Saturn’s rings, and even walked on the Moon! Somehow, Yoda was there, but the boy really didn’t care- he was ecstatic!

As they watched the Sun’s rays illuminate Earth, the boy smiled happily. It was calm in space. “We have a surprise for you.” Neil added, bringing him to the window. Suddenly, there were multi-coloured rays of light and clouds of dust merging together in an ‘eye’ as they swirled around the stars- there was a circle of darkness and stars in the middle of it all. “Darkness and light.” The boy mumbled, looking at the ‘eye.’ “It’s the most beautiful thing in the galaxy,” he breathed as he closed his eyes, going to sleep.

When Astrid accidentally summoned the genie as she was cleaning out her attic, she did not know she was in for it. Her grandfather told her explicitly not to touch the antique teapot stowed in the trunk, yet her hands itched and she had released the imprisoned spirit. It was surprising, smoke surrounded her and the teapot became too hot to touch, so she dropped it and watched it get smashed to bits.

The genie was none too pleased to see the debris littering the dusty floor, but still recited the lines Astrid had only heard in movies and bedtime stories. In her excitement, she forgot about how tricky genies could be, and got ahead of herself. She wished to be given the chance to explore space, to float around and gaze upon her home planet as a whole. Astrid wasn't thinking straight and failed to notice the slight smirk on the genie's face, and was now paying the price for it. Nobody could hear her frightful screams bouncing off the insides of the bubble that encased her. Drifting further and further away from Earth, Astrid's desperate cries to be set free and returned home went unheard.

He heard footstep behind him, they were faster than his. He started walking fast to. The footsteps did the same. He felt a sting of fear. He went faster almost running. Again he was matched.
Why did he take this route? He could see the end of the alleyway. Suddenly he felt a sting in the back of his neck. He put his hand on it and something seemed to fall out. His vision became blurry and suddenly he saw the ground come closer towards him. He lay there eyes closed. He saw these beautiful colors. Blue and pink and yellow all twirling around. The colors seem to form some sort of eye and he felt like he was drawn to the middle.
He heard footsteps stopping by his head and then there was nothing.

We approached the phenomena with care. My science officer was giving out a warning that our ship could be crushed by the gravity of the object before us. The colors were beautiful. Almost mesmerizing. I found myself wanting to go there. I didn't care about the consequences. My first officer shook me and I came out of my trance.
I ordered the helmsman to back off. We would observe from a safer distance away. My first thought after being mesmerized is that an intelligent culture had created it, to lure people into a trap. I called a quick meeting to discuss the phenomena. We decided it was to dangerous to approach directly. My science officer suggested we send a probe. I ordered it to be done.
We watched as the probe approached the phenomena. As soon as it got close, it vanished. All signals were lost,so we had no way of knowing what happened to it. A second probe was sent and blew up when it got within twenty five miles of it.
We tried all types of scans but they came back with no useful information. The scans didn't even tell us what the object was made of. Was it gas? Was it something we had never run across before? We had more questions after trying to scan it.
I ordered my science officer to make a detailed report of where the phenomena was and to warn others not to come here until further investigations could be done. We set out several warning beacons at varying distances to keep others away. i hoped that would be enough.

The swirling colours made her feel sick. Amaya was drifting in the space looking at the colours. She didn't like it at all. And yet, she did. She wanted to reach out and touch the swirling, fascinating, spinning colours. But she knew she shouldn't. Everything would end if she reached for it. So she didn't want to. No, that was a lie. The colours attracted her, and the only thing she wished she could do was to touch it.
But, she would die. And yet...she knew it was her destiny. When she reached for it, her life would end, and the world would be destroyed. But, knew that the world would be reborn. And it would be more powerful and more beautiful than ever. It was her destiny.
Crying because of all the emotions in her head, Amaya reached out and touched the swirl of colours.

"Alright, have you made your decision?" Ben asked as he sat down next to his little cousin.
"Yes!" the six-year-old cried out excitedly. "This one, and this, and this," he said and pointed at several color tubes that lay in front go him on the table.
"Good choices," Ben nodded and took the paints Rafa wanted him to use: Magenta, Blue and Green. "Only those three?"

Rafa took a moment to think about the question. "Can we add more?"
"Of course! What do you have in mind?"
"Yellow! And White! Last time you mixed really pretty colors with white."
"Yellow and white it is," Ben said and took the two colors and placed them next to the other paints. "And what do you want me to paint? Any ideas?"
"Last time you started with a triangle in the middle. This time you have to start with a circle," Rafa smiled up at Ben.
"Sounds good to me," Ben said as he grabbed the first paint and a paint brush and started working on the canvas under the watchful eyes of his cousin.

After a while he looked up and turned towards Rafa. "What do you think. You like it?"
"Yes! I love it!" Rafa's eyes traveled over the colorful swirl of the galaxy Ben had created. "Can we ask Mom to hang it in my room?"
"I'm sure she will say yes," Ben said with a smile and got up. "Let's find her and ask."

It was her favourite painting. All of the colours, swirling and spinning looked magical. She smiled, though she felt tears streaming down her face. She looked around. She was in her Grandma's study, in her house. Grandma had passed away two weeks ago, and today was the first day that Aelia had felt strong enough to got to Grandma's house and go to her stuff. He parents had said she could keep anything she wanted, but Aelia only wished to this painting.
Grandma had painted it when she had been younger, before her arthritis had made some of her hobbies not possible.
Aelia looked once more at the painting. It made her feel happy and yet sad at the same time, but she knew she loved it. A sob broke out, loud in the silent house when she grabbed the painting and left the study.

Kassy was so excited; she was going to teach her first class today her own class. No longer a TA.
She always loved astronomy and could not wait to get started. She was half an hour early, making sure everything was ready. Checking everything over she was contemplating if she wanted to put up the beautiful picture she wanted to show the class now or later. Maybe later was better, it was hard to keep the kids attention as she knew not everyone was so excited about astronomy as her. Nearly time. She pulled out her flask and poured another cup of coffee. The students were starting to come in now and she gave them her friendliest smile.

When it was time she started “welcome to astronomy class, I will be your new teacher Miss stone.” Most of the kids didn’t seem to pay much attention and Kassy got a bit annoyed. “Now kids, settle down, settle down. I know this is not everyone’s favorite subject but you are still required to pay attention.” That didn’t seem to work. Okay she thought I will try it another way. “ Oi, you lot time to shut up now and listen or you can go straight to the headmasters office!”

Well that did it, some of the students stared at her stumped and they all shut up and stared at her. “Good, now I have your attention let’s get started.” Kassy thought this might be a good as ever moment to show the class the picture. When she put it up a few ohhh came from the class. “Beautiful, isn’t it” she said.

Dexter supposed he was entirely to blame for landing them in hot water... again. The security guard warned them to keep their distance, yet his stubbornness got the best of him. Who did the stranger think he was, ordering him around? Without thinking things through, Dexter started coaxing his companions by telling them to step a little closer, it won't hurt. The guard didn't know what he's talking about anyway. He really should stop being so impulsive.

"You got us into this mess, you're getting us out of it," hissed Georgie. She turned around and grabbed Josie's hand. "Stop staring at the patterns, we don't know what's gonna happen if you keep doing that."

"But they're so pretty! Maybe we could stay in here forever," Josie said dreamily. "Hey, what do you think is on the other side of this vortex?"

Georgie's gaze softened and Dexter wisely bit his tongue, pointing out his sister's crush on her best friend was obviously not going to help. Instead, he directed his attention to the myriad of colours and tried his best to stay calm. There was one thing he knew for sure: he was never setting foot in an art gallery ever again.

Estrella had always wanted to be an astronaut. It had been her dream since she had been a little kid, and her parents took her out to the countryside, and she was able to see all the stars up in the sky.
However, since her family doesn't have a lot of money, Estrella wasn't able to become an astronaut, which is why she turned to her second hobby: painting.
Now, the 19-year-old girl was in her flat in London, after finishing to paint the multicoloured, swirling, spiral of colours galaxy in the ceiling of her room. She smiled to herself as she saw the result. If she didn't have enough money to be an astronaut and see the galaxy, she would paint the galaxy in the ceiling of her room.
Tired, Estrella lay in bed, looking upwards. The kaleidoscope of colours was magical, and it made her feel the happiest she had been in a long time. She could almost imagine that she was in a spaceship, looking at the universe.
Exhausted, Estrella fell asleep, a smile on her face.
