Entry #1
Her skin was ignited by the halo of gold around her. Suspended in mid-air, she raised it, the last of the last, urging it up desperately. "Go!" She breathed, and with one final burst of energy, she infused her magic into the roots of the seedling. That did the trick. The branches thickened, leaves burst forth them, and the young tree, no longer a mere seedling, ricocheted up, up into the gaps of the clouds above and the heavens.
Drained of energy and magic, she hung there limply, hands dangling at the sides. She'd been holding onto it for so long it now felt strange, unfamiliar, without the plant in her hand. The girl felt somewhat...hollow inside. But the job was done. She could rest at last.

Entry #2
"Yes." Her eyes shined with triumph. "Yes!"
She could feel it, seeping into her skin, coursing through her veins, filling each cell and tissue. Magic pulsed inside of her, and she felt herself becoming stronger, more powerful. It had worked. Tossing the tree aside, she relished the moment, savored every second of it. Oh, the power she now held was greater than any men. But the bliss was short-lived. Because she could sense something buzzing underneath her. The tremor grew to a rumble, which escalated to an earsplitting roar filled with rage. She reached her hands out, and bursts of gold shot from her palms, but she could not control them. Yet. She needed time to learn, to handle the magic, but now the only thing she didn't have was time. There was a plummeting sensation in her stomach, the whistling of the winds in her ears and the gaping mouth of the ocean looming closer and closer. And she plunged into the murky depths of the sea.

Ginny was fed up of always being overshadowed by her rambunctious brothers, who despite their exuberant natures, were all accomplished wizards, who excelled in their chosen areas of expertise and had all left Hogwarts with impressive exam results.
With another year left at school and trying to come to terms with the ever changed landscape of the world and mourning the loss of kith and kin, Ginny vowed to pass all her tests in impressive style.
She walked outside the Burrow as the evening began to draw in, with clouds gathering and blotting out the low winter sun, the flame haired witch simultaneously cast the Levitation Charm and the Light Refraction Spell.
‘Wingardium Leviosa, Lumen Refractione!’
She floated on the gentle breeze and allowed herself to relaxed into the required supine pose for the difficult triple Incantation, raising her right hand Ginny focused all her concentration on her Yew Wand, silently casting.
‘Taxo Vivifica!’
And smiled with satisfaction as it returned to its original pre Ollivander state.

It was 4 am in the morning. I hadn’t been able to sleep, and while I was tossing and turning, trying to fall asleep, I had heard something. And it wasn’t any regular sound. It was… like it was reaching out to me… calling me… I knew that I had to follow it. When I had quietly tiptoed out of my room, something caught my eye. It was bright and shining, as if it was waiting for me. I looked in that direction, and there was the ball of light just like I had seen it before. It started to drift away from me and bounced up and down, as if motioning for me to follow it. It moved out of the room, so I looked around to see if anyone was around, then swiftly and stealthily followed it. It went through the front door, so I, despite the cold of the snowy weather, followed it out without a jacket. It led me to a secluded spot on the frozen lake. As I walked across the lake, it crackled under my feet, but not in a threatening way. Instead, it was e as a welcome message, moving with my steps. However, the area seemed lighter than it should have been. I followed the direct of light, and pushed a branch from a light blocking it aside, and what I saw blinded me. Right in the center of the space, there was another branch, with a bright, warm, welcoming light surrounding it. I didn’t think. This was where I needed to be, and so I walked over to it. As if it were a caring mother, it lifted me up into the air, and I didn’t need to even think anymore.

The feeling was like none other she had ever felt before. From all the stress and pressure of her school and the people around her, this was just what she needed. To touch the being beyond the sky in tree form made her just feel… complete, and… different than usual. It relieved her of all her tensions and worries, and gave her the feeling of actually being whole and present in that moment. As the magnificent, glowing tree branch lifted her up into the sky, she felt herself falling asleep. It was like falling asleep on a cloud, so she didn’t resist it. She let herself sink deep into the air, which felt like it bent with her movements. Right before she fell asleep, however, she decided to lift some words up to whoever or whatever was helping her at the time. In her head, she did so,
Thank you… thank you.

The lake was eerily quiet as the sun was setting in the west. People were starting to pick up their belongings after a day at the lake. Tomorrow was another work week and children needed to go to school. However, Madison had arrived at the lake and sat down near the edge. She was heartbroken. She had just broken up with her boyfriend of one year. He was leaving for college and there was no promise that he would be back. She had understood and it was for the best. Madison was sitting all alone on the edge of the lake when she noticed a branch was above the waterline. She thought this was strange and went wadding into the lake. Then as she swam towards the branch, something strange started to happen. She became startled as the branch started floating above the water and before she could scream, she felt herself being tug towards the branch. She was floating horizontally beneath the branch. The branches began to glow and it slowly inches towards her being. The warm glow seeps into her body and she felt calm as her sadness was replaced with a refreshing spirit. Then she was on the edge of the lake once again. Madison felt better for some odd reason. She decided that she needed to get home and be ready to start school tomorrow.

Watching her as she was just lying there, no movement no nothing.
It was not fair, she only had such a short time on this earth. Why did this happen, how did this happen. She was gone. I touched her hand, her cold hand. No! I tucked her arm under the blanked, but that would do no good. I will never feel your warmth again. I will never see your smile or hear you voice. You are lost to me now my sweetheart
The nurse came in, this was it, our last moment.
Goodbye, my beautiful girl. You are in my heart forever.
I followed the nurse out of the room, by the door i stopped and closed my eyes. I took a deep breath opened my eyes and walked away.

[WC: 131]

It was the beginning of the end. The signs had been there all along and now there was this. People were panicked at first and there was chaos. But now it had gone quiet, to quiet. Almost everyone was gone. An empty world ready to start over. An empty world that was harsh and cold and beautiful.
I started to walk, walk with no destination. Just walk in this empty world. Some birds flew over and two horses were running in the distance. The sun was shining on my face and as i looked at this empty world, I smiled.

The moon had watched her all through her life, and as she died he lifted her up. Her hair floated on an unseen breeze along with the simple white dress she was wearing. Unconsciously she opened her hand and a sapling sprouted from her palm, reaching up towards the sky. A ring of golden light surrounded her, projected from the moon. He saw how she cared and gave life to those around her and chose to give her a second chance. He slowly set her down again and spoke. He said "Your name is Gaia, and you will protect the nature and the life of this world."

Entry 1:
"No happily ever after."
"Mn?" Maria questioned.
"No happily ever after this time." Cobalt repeated looking serious.
Maria nodded.
"There once was a girl named Katie. She was a tree sprite. A man called Aaron was hunting her."
"Why?"
"I don't know. It was a very long time ago."

The sun was setting. Katie didn't think she could run much longer.
The rough earth cut her feet, salty wind whipped through her hair.

"He chased her to a cliff."

She sobbed in despair as she came to a steep cliff. She turned around sharply and faced her pursuer.
The man was lean and tall. He would have caught her if not for the grief dragging his every step. "You killed them!"
She backed away, closer to the cliff edge. "I didn't!" Her voice cracked.
"They fell! From a tree!" He snarled at her.
"I didn't! They were my children as well!" She cried out in a mixture of grief and fear.
The man didn't reply, his hands were clenched in fists.

"Then what?" Cobalt asked eagerly.
"Katie jumped, of course."

Her world was a swirl of movement for a moment.

"Then she turned into a tree."
"Uh?"
"She's a tree sprite, Dear."

It was painful. Like someone was tearing her very being apart. She screamed and writhed in pain as her limbs turned into green shoots.
Aaron watched from the cliff, his face twisted in agony. Katie was beautiful, even in a state like this. He hated her.

"Trees don't grow in the sea."
"The Sea took pity on Katie and gave her a piece of the seabed. She became an floating tree. Her island was named Aaron."
"Why did she use the scary man's name?"
"... I believe she loved him."
"Hmm..."

[WC: 292]

Entry 2:
"Mommy told me the story of the tree girl." Miles stated.
Cobalt nodded in agreement.
"So what happened after?"
"After what?"
"After she turned into a tree."
Cobalt frowned in thought.
"Katie could not turn back without a lot of magic. She... There was a man who... loved her very much. He found Katie."

Aaron knelt at the base of the great tree. "I was wrong. I'm so..." His breath hitched. "Oh Katie, my dear Kate. What a curse I have set on you... Please, please come back..."

"He invoked a powerful ritual to set her free."

Blood spilled through his fingers rolling like ruby pearls through the grass, seeping into the ground. His vision shook. Maybe he'd lost too much blood. But then the ground shook again and roots began to writhe out from the ground, cracking through the carefully drawn symbols on the ground.

"And the tree was lifted into the air with magic."

Aaron was thrown aside and he watched as the tree was lifted into the air, surrounded by a halo of magic. The greyish bark rippled and the magic swirled around the tree. It blurred like a mirage and seemed to shrink. Then plant fiber became flesh and bark back into skin until at last the remaining branches became hands. The halo vanished. The girl fell again. With sudden strength Aaron heaved himself up...

Cobalt paused. "And then?" Miles inquired.
"I'm afraid this is a happily ever after story." She told him.
"So what?"
Cobalt chuckled. "Well, then the man and Katie lived happily ever after on the Aaron Island."
"What about the bad man?"
"I don't know," She shrugged. "After all, it was a long time ago."

Submission #1:

Nature was the anchor to the girl’s soul, pulling her away from the mundane. Warm sunshine filled her with joy, lifting her up and holding her in its beams. She felt the thrum of life as she rested her hands on the tree trunk, as if she could feel the nutrients being pulled from the roots to the tiniest leaf. As she watched yellow bees dart from flower to flower, her focus shifted from her problems to the beauty around her. She could start to see each beat of the wings. The blooms beckoned to the insects, needing them to spread pollen amongst the nearby plants. The girl was at peace, in the warm embrace of the natural world.

If only right now the heavens would open extending to each their own branch on which to cling . to each a bubble to keep them safe in suspended animation until the killer that has been set loose blows back from whence it came. If only there was a way to keep each of us safe we have located where it came from but we have no idea when it or where it will end. How many lives will be lost? How many Jobs Homes livelihoods affected. The r is no one to blame there is nowhere to run. We need to really all work together and stay in our own spaces as much as possible. Upon seeing the golden glow shining off the beach, Jacob glanced up. Bright blue eyes widening, he was very close to dropping his bagel onto the sparkly sand below. There, straight in front of him, was a girl that seemed to be floating on her back in mid-air. The little boy couldn’t believe what he was seeing and rubbed his tired eyes with his right hand. What was going on?

Running up to his father, he tugged on the man’s trousers and pointed towards the girl. “What is that, Daddy? Who is she?” he whispered, scared of waking the strange girl with the tree in her hand.

“Who is who, son?” Anthony replied gently as he grasped the boy’s hand. “I can’t see anyone.”

They'd had this argument over and over since the child's conception. She was... odd -- but well-loved.
"Ron, we need to take Rose to see Master Snape --"
Her hands went up to stop his angry rebuttal unshouted.
"-- or at least Dumbledore's portrait. She starts Hogwarts in three weeks; we HAVE to know!"
The ginger looked out over the pond. His kids laughed and rough-housed on the dock, their Granger-gifted fishing poles forgotten in the last days of summer.
" 'Mione, you work harder than all of us. Let's enjoy our hols. I'll take her to St. Mungo's when we get back -- get 'er a good looking over. Alright?"
She didn't want to argue, not with this ending their last full year as a family.
Boarding school loomed.
Hermione drifted to the window, drawn by her legendary curiosity over what her children were enjoying so loudly. Their peals and shouts of joyous laughter pushed a small smile on their mother's worried expression.
After an adolescence spent in war, those Hermione cherished were her life...
"Alri-" she started to acquiesce -- then stopped abruptly. "You'd better take her now."
One glimpse and Ron darted through the cottage door to pull his Rosie down from the water she hovered over, his patronus screaming from his wand towards St. Mungo's Magical A&E.
As Trelawny had prophesied (to Hermione's disbelief and emotionally overwrought frustration) at Rose's birth, the most powerful witch in Europe was currently exercising her powers...
Inside, Hermione Weasley snatched up her mobile and placed a call --
"Severus? You were right. Can we meet with Minerva after the sorting?"
Some question got asked, which she answered --
"No, luv... I agree; she'll go Slytherin."

At 3, he told her "We'll have no silly wand waving. That's for your mother and Uncle Harry." She frowned in concentration while moving the wooden cooking spoon to concoct her pretend pudding...
At 6, he saved her from fatal injuries when she sought to "help" by adding the next potion ingredient herself. Levitation of heavy canisters isn't easy for young witches and she lost control. Only her mother's screamed "SERENA!" moved her close enough to be snatched clear of the explosion by her battled-hardened father...
At 8, they supervised, her wand (made from a salvaged twig) barely moving as she cast common cleaning charms expertly.
"She learned that from you," her mother smirked.
"What?"
"That it's not the wand, it's the witch."
He kissed his wife then inspected the effort.
"This is worthy of Fortescue's best. Come," and the little girl bounded into her father's arms...

At 10, her father observed from the rear porch as she performed astounding magic joyously. She proved she'd fly before boarding school; she'd begin Hogwarts in September -- a year early.
Turning, Severus beckoned Hermione to witness the power at their daughter's disposal. Serena commandeered a fallen branch, wielding it as a conduit for the power pulsing through her; she levitated over the small lake in their back garden (to soften any falls). Twirling in the air, she didn't note the proud looks from her parents.
"She's so like you," Hogwarts Advanced Potions professor hummed into Hermione's hair.
"You think?" Hogwarts Charms and Transfiguration professor queried sarcastically.
"But she's still a Slytherin."
"Prepare to pay that 200 galleons at the Heads table, sweetheart."
"You two," Severus chuckled, "will rule our world in ten years."
"We three, sweetheart," and Hermione left him standing there alone, shocked by her bombshell...

And there she lay on the beach.

Her eyes were closed and her mind free as she floated to the heavens. There was no night and no day, no life and no death. There was just the sky and the water, the sand and the tree. She felt it all and wondered why she felt nothing. But the questions didn't come, just acceptance of her fate.

She continued on, higher and higher, watching the earth fade away. She wondered why she'd never noticed all the stars or the scent of the world around her. Her bubble kept her safe in the air, but also opened herself up to the wonders beyond. It was safe and free, this small journey they called death.

She had never imagined that dying would be liked this. As she took her final breath, her mother had whispered, "Remember to hold on to the tree roots. And always remember how much we all love you."

Her illness had been debilitating and painful. In truth, it was a relief to let go. She exhaled and closed her eyes for the final time and just in time, she managed to remember to hold onto the tree roots. Her body was lifted into the air and she felt a liberating lightness of being. She was surrounded by a glimmering halo of warm light, and all of the pain was gone. She felt better than she had in years. Her heart filled with love as she continued to rise higher into the sky.

“But how do we get to Neverland?”

“Fly, of course!”

Wendy thought about that moment often, the moment when she’d stepped off the windowsill and followed Peter to the world beyond the stars where no one ever grew up. When she closed her eyes, she could still picture him, glowing in the sunlight as he floated effortlessly above the sea. For Peter, flying came as naturally as walking. For Wendy and her brothers, faith and trust had taken a little more conscious effort.

“Do you think we’ll ever see him again?” little Michael asked her, peering through the nursery window out into the cloudy night beyond.

Wendy smiled, running a gentle hand through his golden curls as she knelt beside him. “Don’t worry,” she whispered. “We may not see him, but he’s always looking out for us.”
