Task
Romilda giggled as she emerged from her dorm. Her plan was going to work out just fine. Harry Potter would have no option but to ask her to the Yule Ball. All she had to do was wait for him to open the box she had given him and eat one chocolate cauldron. She had told him the sweets contained fire whiskey. What he didn't know, however, was that she had added a dollop of love potion to it. I come up with the best ideas, Romilda thought to herself, walking down to the Common Room in high spirits. She saw Harry sitting with his best friend Ron, working on a piece of homework. Hermione wasn't at the table with them. Romilda sat down in one of the armchairs and stared at Harry with extra cheer. If Granger wasn't with Harry, then Romilda's plan was sure to succeed.

“This would be a lot easier if Hermione were here,” Ron grumbled, throwing down his quill.
“Yeah, where is she anyway?” Harry asked, looking around the common room. Harry’s eyes fell on a girl sitting in one of the armchairs who was obviously staring at him. He averted his eyes and stared down at his Defense Against the Dark Arts homework.
Ron, oblivious to Romilda, shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know. She said she had to go do something. If I were to guess, I’d say she’s in the library.” Ron said this while rolling his eyes. “I don’t see what she likes about the mustiness of the books.”

Harry stayed quiet. Ron’s eyebrows came together in a questioning expression. “What’s the matter, mate?”
Harry nodded towards Romilda who continued to stare at him in a not-creepy-at-all way.

Ron turned around to look at what was getting Harry all squeamish. Ron scoffed and chuckled. “Bloody hell, Harry. Looks like you’ve got an admirer.”

Romilda sat watching and waiting for Ron to leave the table, that seem to take forever but eventually he got up and went to join his older brothers the twins. Rushing across the room she was glad Harry was busy with homework so did not notice her until she set the box on the book he was studying. My Mum sent them to me they have Fire whisky in them and I don't care for them so I thought you might like them. She smiled sweetly turned and waved over her shoulder as she returned to her seat by the fireplace, acting as unconcerned by the whole thing as possible.
Picking up her History of Magic book she opened it to the page she had marked and began to read not looking at Harry directly for several minutes, when she did look the box of candy was missing and he had resumed scribbling on his parchment. So he had accepted them that was the hardest part now she just had to be a little patient until he actually tried one and not look to interested in him in the mean time.

Taking time to put down his quill, Harry looked at the box of chocolates. It was a very nice gesture, but it just went to show that Hermione had been right. Girls would go to extreme lengths to prove their affection for him. He wasn’t even that into Firewhiskey and that just proved that Romilda really didn’t know him at all. The bespectacled young man had always wanted someone who actually cared enough to get to know him and not just shower him with gifts.

Still, it was nice to be polite. Standing up, Harry gathered his items and put them in his bag. With a small sigh, he got up and climbed the stairs to the dormitory. Dumping his bag and the chocolates on his bed, the Gryffindor descended the stairs once more. “Thanks for the chocolates, Romilda,” he muttered before heading over to join Ron and the twins.

Romilda's elbow slipped in shock as Harry spoke to her, and her Potions textbook thudded onto the table. She quickly reached out and picked it back up, but she didn't start reading again. She couldn't. She was going over Harry's words again, and again...

She had thought that he didn't care at all, but he had actually taken the time to thank her. "Thanks for the chocolates, Romilda." He had even said her name. She didn't think that he even knew she existed, much less knew her name. A dreamy sigh escaped her lips, and her textbook slipped a little lower in her grasp. If Harry freakin' Potter knew her name, it had to mean that he had noticed her.

Suddenly, she knew that she'd been going about it all wrong. She didn't need to give a love potion to him - he already liked her. A thrill of panic rushed through her thoughts.

He must be playing hard to get! That's what boys did, wasn't it? They didn't just tell girls that they liked them. They didn't even show it, not really. But it slipped out, in tiny things, in small words and gestures, in opening doors and picking things up and knowing people's names.

Obviously, pure love would be better than a love potion. Romilda had thought that the love potion was the only way, but if Harry already liked her and was just too afraid to show it, the potion would ruin everything. She needed to find a way to get him to profess the love that he obviously already had, but first she needed to make sure that he couldn't eat those chocolates!

She stood and walked quickly towards the staircase. She just needed to find a way to swap the laced chocolate with regular chocolate cauldrons.

Slipping silently up the stone steps towards Harry’s dorm, Romilda Vane felt the ‘thud, thud, thud,’ of her heart as she scrambled ever onwards, hoping no other boys met her on her search for the love potion laced chocolate cauldrons. Finally reaching her destination, she peeked surreptitiously around the door, sighing with relief as she spotted Harry’s bag with the contents spilling out onto the floor besides his bed. Taking a tiny step inside the hallowed room of her beloved, she sneaked across on tiptoes and put her outstretched hand into the school bag.
Moments later she gave out a screech as something had bitten her, removing her hand, she had a rat with it’s jaw clenched to her fingers. Shaking him off she continued to furkle around the bag looking for the gift she had given in the misguided belief that she would need to force Harry Potter to love her.
‘Where are the damned Chocolate cauldrons?’
A voice from behind made Romilda jump.
‘Do you mean these?’ Seamus Finnigan asked,. He was with his friend, Dean Thomas, and they were about to stuff the confectionary into their mouths.

Romilda Vane's mouth fell open. "Why- Yes! I did mean those!" She hastily closed her mouth then finished, "Those aren't for you! I made those especially for-"
She stopped before she finished her sentence. What she did could get her in serious trouble. She needed do divert the suspicion away from herself somehow... But how...?
"I got those as a gift for Harry, not for you- you- slugs!" She spluttered in an unexpected burst of anger, effectively drawing their attention to an insult instead with the meanest thing she could think of.
"What do you have to say for yourselves!?" Romilda demanded, putting all her anger, her want, into her voice. She glared at them. "Well?"

Seamus and Dean looked in puzzlement at the angry young witch, then at each other, shrugged their shoulders and continued to attempt to eat the delicious chocolate cauldrons.
Incensed, the dark eyed lioness whipped out her wand and cast the Summoning Spell.
‘ Accio Chocolate Cauldrons!’
And instantly the box and contents returned to the gift giver, as she hurriedly replaced them inside and with a flick of her long wavy hair, she ran down the stairs and into the Common room, slightly breathless and scanning the faces for her beloved Harry.
Locating him sitting on the comfortable chairs by the fire with Ron and his twin brothers, who were demonstrating some Valentines gimmicks they had been working on, Romilda, gave a satisfied sigh and sat on a chair opposite the object of her affections willing him to look and then speak to her again.
‘Err, Harry, that crazy girl who was stalking you earlier is back.’ Ron indicated with a nod towards the lovelorn Romilda.
‘Oh, there you two are! You should have come to the Library and studied for our...’ Hermione stopped mid sentence as she spotted the intense gaze of Romilda towards Harry.
The Common room was interrupted by the arrival of a flustered Professor McGonagall.

"What's this box of chocolates doing here?" Harry asked curiously as he lifted the box and looked at the label. "I wonder who it's from." "Yea." Ron said, half-nodding, and half in a gum-chewing position. "Can I have some?"Harry looked at the box of chocolates and sniffed it. "Looks good, it's not overdue, sure you can have some." Ron made one of his wide and evil-ish grins.
Romilda was still looking over at the two from a corner. As Ron made grabby hands to the box, she suddenly jumped in and hugged Harry. "Hey Harry." She said in one of her sweet little tones. This surprise made Ron drop the box of chocolates, and the entire box fell towards the ground. "Romilda, you scared me." Harry said as he dusted off the dust from his shirt. Ron groaned as he turned around, "Romilda, what the heck are you doing here?" Romilda replied calmly as she nervously looked towards the chocolates to see if they fell out. "Just chilling and saying hi." Harry noticed Romilda's gestures as she looked towards the chocolate. His sight moved from the chocolates to Romilda, then from Romilda to the chocolates again. "Romilda, are you those chocolates yours?"

”No. Why do you think that?” Romilda said hurriedly, turning as red as a ripe tomato.

Rolling his eyes, Harry looked at the girl who was so obviously throwing herself at him. “Look, Romilda. You’re great but I’m just not interested in a relationship right now. I have a lot on my plate.”

Romilda sighed and stormed off to her dormitory. Harry could see Ginny in the background looking at him as if she was going to cry. Oh Godric! Did she hear that!? All he wanted was the youngest Weasley, but she was currently dating. And then there was the issue of her being his best friend’s sister.

Romilda sat on her bed filled with outrage at the very public rebuke from Harry, tears of fury erupted as she plotted how to get her beloved away from the clutches of that wild haired harridan, Hermione Granger. Her friends Leanne and Lavender Brown came into their shared dorm to comfort the near hysterical girl, with soothing words and total agreement on the vicious and underhand nature of the Muggleborn know-it-all.
‘I’ve heard she’s stringing both Harry and Ron along.’ Confided Lavender.
‘Yeah, did you notice how she’s always alone with one or the other?’ Stated Leanne.
‘It’s true, she’s boy mad! Confirmed Romilda, sniffling into her hankie, ‘Harry’s too afraid to say how much he cares for me, because she’s got some hold over him!’ Fresh tears of frustration caused the upset witch to throw herself on her pillow, with her friends trying to find the right words to say.
‘Maybe we could Jinx or Hex her, that’d get rid of her!’ Lavender said gleefully.
Sitting upright, the dark haired girl’s imagination was piqued, and the path to her one true love became clearer.

A few tears streamed down Romilda’s face as she listened to her friends. Everything was going wrong. That muggleborn girl was always in the way. What did Harry see in her?

An even larger sobbed escaped--not only did she mess up in getting Harry to eat the chocolate--Seamus and Dean did! All hope was lost. She wished she could apparate out of Hogwarts forever.

Then a thought struck her. Maybe this was the solution, “If Harry sees all the boys want me then maybe he’ll want me too! That and we definitely need to hex Hermione. She’s always in the way.”

On her way to bed, Ginny couldn’t help but overhear what the older girls were saying about Hermione. She knew that the girl could be a bit of a know-it-all at times, but her heart was always in the right place.

Not even bothering to knock, the fifth-year stormed into the room. “Whatever you think about Hermione, you’re wrong! She is a great friend and worth much more than you three put together. She actually cares about Harry and doesn’t just hurl meaningless gifts at him. Grow up!”

With that, the youngest redhead went into her own dormitory. She was fuming. She had to warn Hermione. Heading back down to the common room, she wandered towards the trio.

“Hermione! Harry, Ron!” Ginny called.
The trio turned around, surprised at the shout.
“What’s up?” Ron inquired.
“I heard Romilda, Leanne and Lavender talking about you, Hermione.” Ginny said. “And of course you, Harry,” she added quickly.
“What else is new?” asked Harry.
Ginny moved closer and lowered her voice. “They’re planning on making all the boys fall desperately in love with you, Harry.”
Harry groaned. “Will she ever give up?”
“That’s not all,” continued Ginny. Turning to Hermione, she said, “They want to jinx you, because you’re ‘always in the way’.” Ginny snorted derisively.
“I doubt they can do much damage, those idiots,” Ron remarked airly. “We don’t have anything to worry about.”

"I mean that's completely inappropriate, Ron!" Hermione said, mouth agape, "Even if they probably won't be able to do anything substantial, it's still completely inappropriate for them to forcibly get the boys to fall in love with Harry."

"Especially without their consent," Ginny chimed in, "How would you feel if someone took over your body and made you kiss them?! I would be appalled! Plus, I'm pretty sure that a few of them already have boyfriends and girlfriends."

"Wow, good point," Ron said, "I've never thought about that before... we have to stop them, but how?" He furrowed his ginger brows, deep in thought.

Harry shook his head. "I mean I love all of my brothers as friends, but having them fall in love with me is a bit much. Why don't we just try talking to them? It seems like such an odd, random plan. I'm sure we could deter them if we just educated them a bit."

Romilda wiped her tears away, smearing mascara all over her face, and shot a look so toxic it would've burned a hole right through the door. "Grow up?" She scoffed indignantly. "SHE should be the one who needs to grow up! Who does she think she is?"

Leanne and Lavender nodded vigorously. "I'm sure Weasley'll tell Harry and the others." Lavender said, and Leanne piped in," Yeah. If you want to win Harry's heart, you'll have to do it subtly. To be frank, he always looks a bit annoyed whenever you're around him-no offense, Millie," She added hastily, catching the livid look on her friend's face.

Three hesitant knocks interrupted the three. Romilda narrowed her dark eyes suspiciously. "Come in." She commanded briskly. With a creak, the door swung open, and to Romilda's absolute delight, it was the boy of her dreams.

"Oh, Harry! I had no idea it was you! What brings YOU here, Haaarrry?" Romilda gushed, batting her long lashes and smiling tentatively at Harry. "What did I tell you about being subtle, Millie?" Leanne groaned.

"I...I came here to-" The poor boy was at a loss of words.
"You're nervous and that's totally understandable, Harry." Romilda said reassuringly, winking knowingly at him. Harry was so adorable. If he was nervous around her, then that meant he definitely liked her. Her heart did a tango. "You know what? Do come in and make yourself comfortable," Romilda continued in her sugary sweet voice, scooting over and patting her bed.

But then the moment was ruined. The meddlesome Weasleys and oh, god, not her again, that horrible Granger girl, stormed in, looks of utter disdain written all over their faces.

Hermione nudged Ron. The redhead stepped forwards and glanced down into the girl’s tear-stained face. “Whatever you lot have planned you’re wasting your time! Harry has already told you that he’s not interested. Just respect that and leave him alone.”

Romilda pulled herself to her full height and glared up at Ron. “Who are you to tell me what to do, Weasley. What would you know about what Harry wants? Anyway, it’s her fault,” she said, glaring at Hermione.

Ron glared back, towering over the girl. “No one deserves being spoken to like that. Especially by someone from their own House. I expect this from Parkinson but certainly not from you. In fact, you’ve just proved you’re no better than a Slytherin.”

“Let’s just go,” Hermione muttered before they all headed out of the door.

Leanne watched the drama unfold wordlessly. She loved Romilda as a sister but she was overly dramatic sometimes. It was not unheard of for ruses to arise during Valentine’s day, as something happened every year. It was brave, though, to play these kinds of games with Harry and his friends. They knew far more than Leanna or Romilda did.

A breath of relief escaped Leanne as she watched the trio leave the dormitory. “Hey Romilda, maybe they’re right. This seems like too much trouble for what it’s worth. We need to get Harry to like you naturally.. Not by hurting him or his friends.” Leanna continued, “You know I love you like a sister. Let's go down to the kitchens and see if we can get some ice cream to cheer you up!”

Romilda was furious. Harry could speak for himself. Why did he need his ginger to speak for him? How could Ron Weasley understand Harry’s feelings and desires?

Ugh. That’s bothersome.

She frowned as she fought back more tears. She collapsed on her bed, shoving her face into the pillow.

“Just leave me alone, Leanne. I need to be left alone,” Romilda grumbled into the pillow, her voice muffled but clearly heard by her friends.

Lavender sighed and left the room, shaking her head muttering, “boy crazy.”

Leanne reached over and placed a comforting hand on Romilda’s shoulder but Romilda just shook it off, rolling onto her side, facing away from Leanne.

Leanne’s face contorted into a look of hurt but Romilda didn’t see the effect of her action.

“Just think about it Millie. I don’t want you to get hurt more than you already have,” Leanne said with concern for her friend.

Then she got up and left the room.

Her blood boiled. Her heart pounded. Her so-called friends didn’t understand. We need to get Harry to like you naturally, Leanne had said. That was it! Romilda’s obsidian eyes glittered with malice and she grabbed her wand and strode out the door purposefully.

“There he is.” She breathed, peeking from behind a pillar. Fortunately for her, Harry still hadn’t slept and was with one of the Weasleys. Robert, wasn’t it? No, it was Ronald. But that didn’t matter. She took a shaky breath and raised her wand with a trembling hand. It’s now or never, a voice inside her chided.

“Furnunculus!” She muttered, and boils erupted on Harry’s skin. A pang of guilt hit her as Harry yelled in agony, but she continued. “Obscuro,” Romilda whispered again, and the Weasley was instantly blindfolded.
Perfect. If all went according to plan, Harry would be hers by tomorrow.
