“It was an incredible sight. The dungeon was full of hundreds of pearly-white, translucent people, mostly drifting around a crowded dance floor, waltzing to the dreadful, quavering sound of thirty musical saws, played by an orchestra on a black-draped platform. A chandelier overhead blazed midnight blue with a thousand more black candles. Their breath rose in a mist before them; it was like stepping into a freezer.”
~ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

It's the 527th anniversary of Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington's death and you somehow got yourself invited to the party!

T A S K

In three sentences or more, tell us about what would you do while at Nearly Headless Nick party! What are you most excited about? The lovely rotten and mouldy food? Head Hockey?

I think it would be fun to play head hockey! Weaving around the other guests, scoring a goal through another guest. Not sure I would eat the food. If I was alive & attending, I think it would be interesting to talk to each ghost about their death experience

I would want to join the musicians who are playing the musical saws! I think that would be quite the experience. I also would want to dance with the ghosts because there would be no worries about stepping on toes or tripping over anyone. I would have absolutely no interest in the food because that would really turn my stomach to be honest, but I'd love to mingle and have a chat with everyone to discuss how they died, what life is like as a ghost, and what they miss most about being alive.

I don’t think I would enjoy the food at the party but I would be excited about company. I would engage myself into discussions about history. It’s so fascinating to know about how the life was over 500 years ago. If there were any alchemists present I would want to hear their tricks.

I would enjoy the party (but not the food), talking to the other guests. I would be very intereted in The Wild Hunt and want to talk to them all. I would also like to talk with Nearly Headless Nick about what life was like under Henry VII.

Well, for me it would be all about the music. Yes, it would be dirge-like, but the prospect of hearing bow saws and other unconventional instruments appeals to the musician in me. I don't dance, so I would just be listening to and watching the musicians. As an added bonus, it seems the stage is about the farthest away from the rotten, moldy food, so I'd spare my senses the stench.

I would want to sample the food, although it is mouldy. Although I wouldn't dance, I would certainly enjoy the music. I would stay there all night.

I don't think I would consider trying the food. Not really into hockey or head hockey in that case but would sure enjoyed watching other play. Also, would sure love to listen to the music and dance a little bit.

For me I would love to watch the games of Head Hockey. Something about watching the head just bounce around seems interesting to me. I would also love to spend some time socializing with the multitudes of Ghosts, their stories would be so fascinating.

Well i certainly would not want anything to do with the food. nevertheless I think I would be interesting to chat to the ghosts and learn their histories and about the history of the times that they lived in. This is because i am very interested in history. Perhaps the hockey game would be interesting to watch, but i am not sure if i would participate!

I would enjoy the party by dancing along with them or watching the musicians play, Or I would talk to the ghost and see how they all died or ask them who they were before they did pass. Fun to learn the stories of his guest and where they came from. What they did when they were living. Since the food is moldy I probably would not enjoy it too much but perhaps the drinks are not that moldy and I would settle for some.

I would look at the food just to see what is being served. I'm sure the music would be eerily spooky, but I really want to see the Headless Hunt and hope against hope that Sir Nicholas finally gets to compete. He deserves to be a part of the prestigious event.

I would be overjoyed to be invited to Sir Nicholas Death Day Party. What a treat! I'd get to converse with ghosts from outside of Hogwarts. I'd dance with some of them and find out how they died. I'd have fun watching the Head Hockey game but I'd be sure not to eat or drink anything. The idea of moldy green food or drink gives me the shivers.

For sure the most exciting and best part would be all the guests. How often do you have the chance to be in a room surrounded by folks who have lived throughout time. Not only have they lived life long before you have, they've gotten to see it all change and grow. I'd absolutely be stoked about the prospect of listening to old stories and learning things I probably couldn't learn otherwise. So for sure you'd find me in a crowd of ghosty guests talking it up and soaking in their words. Nothing else at the party could possibly top that if you ask me.

I would decline the food by telling them i had just eaten and not hungry, I would speak with all the guest about what had happened to each and how they cope with being a ghost.

I guess i would have to dance with a few of them as i was unable to pick up the stick to play the game , will suggest that we incorporate some items for the live guests next year, we come up with an idea for this year, I supply the tail and peeves will place the ghostly pin on it so we can pin the tail on the ghosts.

I go and spread the word about the new game to play and encourage other students to try it out.

I would really enjoy everything, apart from the food. It would be cool to see all of Nick's ghost friends, and find out how each of them had died. I'd love to watch the Headless Hunt play Head Hockey, and see Nick's reaction to their appearance. It would also be a really good opportunity to meet any Hogwarts ghosts that wouldn't usually socialize with students.

I would love to sit by the fireplace and listen to the music playing at the party. I would really enjoy watching the ghosts dance together, periodically dancing through the invited people, also dancing. I would especially love to talk to the ghosts (being interested in History of Magic) to see what life was when they were alive, and how today's life is different.

At Sir Nicholas' party I would be in awe of all the transparent ghosts dancing across the floor. I would join in with them, not just because I love dancing; but because being a part of a dance with floating dancers would be amazing. . I also would love to the various ghosts about their lives and the time period that they lived in. I am fascinated by the medieval times.

I would definitely play head hokey although I don’t know I would eat the food and it would be cool talking to ghosts about what they do now that they are dead. The head hockey would be fun though because I would get to learn play hockey. So it sounds really fun. I would love to go there.
