The pressure is on as you work hard on your next roleplay post, due to be posted in a few hours. Through all the blood, sweat, and tears being put into perfecting your post, you are running out of time to check for grammar and spelling. What’s the harm in submitting it like this? The content itself is great… who cares if there are some grammar and spelling errors?! I don’t have time to look through all that!

TASK
We’ve all been there. Whether it be for Quidditch, the RP Factor, or other roleplaying contests on HEX, there may have been times when you were faced wondering if checking for grammar and spelling is all that important in the grand scheme of things. It definitely is! For some official roleplaying activities, such as Quidditch, you can lose points for having grammar and spelling mistakes that lead to the post being almost unreadable. Not only that, but poor grammar and spelling can disrupt the flow of a roleplay post.

For this month’s 101 task, we will be providing you with a sample roleplay post that has several grammar/spelling errors in it. Your task is to correct any grammar/spelling error you may find. When making your corrections, please be sure to BOLD and UNDERLINE where you have corrected something.

EX:

The wind blow fast.

The wind blew fast.

Once you have corrected the post below, you must write a response to the post with five or less grammar and spelling errors. Your response must contain a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 500 words.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY POST
What… whats this? you think to yourself, as you stare down at the mysterious box in front of you. I didnt even order anythign lately… what it be? Curiousity got the better of you, as you decide to examine the box.

After a few sakes, you notice loud thuds in the box. It must be something big! But… what could it even be? As you lay a hand on the box to oopen it, the sound of the doorbell soon reached your ears. Oi…. who could be they’re? I want to know what be in this box! To your demise, the doorbell contnus to ring, interrupt your curiosity of the box.

Okay… I guees i’d best go answer it. You think, as you walk quickly to the door. An unknown face greeted you as you opening it.

“uh… hi? Who are you?” you ask the stranger, still annoy that whoever they are disrupted your box opening.

“Did you appen to get a box recently?” the stranger asks, in a low, deep voice.

“I… did? What’s this about?” you ask nervously, feeling sweat begin to form.

“You didnt open that bix, did you?” the strange man queired, staring into your eyes deeply as he did so.

“I mean… I was about to? Again, what’s this about? It’s just a box, isnt it?” you ask, as you store back at the man.

“No, it is not just a box. It’s more than a box. Please let me in so I can examine it,” ordered the man.

“But I don’t even know who you are!” you stuttered, annoyance clearly showign on your face.

“You’ll find out soon enough,” the man responded, as he let himself in.

Sent in my answer. And can I just say that figuring out how to bold and underline everything properly was insane.

If any changes we make are deletions, how do you want us to show those -- we can't bold and underline something that isn't there?

Should we use the strikethrough coding?

If we don't find all errors in the sample post - will our entry still be counted?

As long as you show an effort (i.e. finding at least five) then it will still be counted if you don't find them all

When you are making a spelling correction do you have to note the corrected word NEXT to the Bold and underlined misspelled word?

You would just replace it with the correctly spelled word, but bold and underline where you've done so so we can see that it got caught

For example, like this:

Original sentence: I'd like some nugets please!

Corrected sentence: I'd like some nuggets please!

Hey, can I get points for being a grammar pedant? The second sentence of rule number four should read:

"There must be five or fewer grammar/spelling errors"

"Less" is for a substance, like milk, for example. "Fewer" is for whole items, like errors. 😂😂 😂

(No offense... just being cheeky.)

I would LOVE to do this but the coding requirement is insane. I didn't even finish was sentence and I was already annoyed.... The concept is great... I love things like this - but that amount of coding - just no..

Hey Terry, I'm sorry to hear that you feel the coding is too hard - my suggestion is to simply highlight the areas you need to underline and bold, then click the buttons above the reply box to do the coding for you

This is probably a dumb question (I'm new to RP) - but who's point of view should we use when we write our response? The man's? Or should we continue in the style the sample post is written in?
