Partner interaction is a vital part of any roleplay. It is what allows two or more writers to blend their ideas together into one plot. Interactions can span a wide variety of RP elements, but they most appear in the form of dialogue or actions performed by your character. What makes something an interaction? An interaction has to be seen, heard, or otherwise observed by another character, providing them material with which they can interact.

TASK
In at least 100 words, write a roleplay post to respond to the sample below. You should roleplay as a different character than the one in the prompt. In your post, highlight (different color, italic, bold, etc.) at least two areas in your post that a partner could respond to.

PROMPT
"Hello, is anybody home?" called out thirteen-year-old Jared as he pushed open the door to the old, tumble-down house. Supposedly, it was haunted. It couldn't hurt to let the ghosts know he was coming. He'd lived down the street from it all of his life, and it was about time he explored it. When he was little, all of the older kids in the neighborhood had dared each other to enter and, now that he was a teenager, it was Jared's turn.

The boy gulped and pushed the creaky door open. The room was void of furniture, dark, musty, and incredibly dusty. As he stepped forward, the floor squeaked loudly. Jared jumped. Just to be safe, he left the front door open before he walked gingerly through the room and down a hallway lined with a handful of doors.

Most of the doors were shut, but one of them was ajar. From inside, Jared could see the faint glow of a light. Ghosts didn't use lights, did they? Biting his lip, Jared placed one hand on the door, and it swung open. Jared was surprised by who he saw. "What are you doing here?" he asked.

Luisa was a quiet sort of person. She went to school everyday, she got average grades, she ate lunch alone, she spent the recess hours huddled in the corner with a book. No one noticed her. No one ever noticed her. And no one knew that at the age of thirteen, she was homeless and living alone in an old abandoned house that the whole neighborhood thought was haunted. One day as she was washing the small amount of clothing she had managed to steal from a donation bin, she heard someone's voice, a voice she recognized from her class. He couldn't see her like this, how could she explain? She quickly shoved the basin she was washing the clothes in beneath the table. hopefully he wouldn't see them, and she wouldn't need an explanation. The door opened and there was her classmate Jared shocked to see her.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"me? Same as you...I guess. Uh, the other girls dared me to ...spend the night here."

As the squeak from the floorboard reached him, John jumped backwards. With each inhale and exhale coming becoming more and more rapid, he glanced back and forth. There had to be a place to hide the ring. Nobody had to know that he was stealing.

He had only just managed to place it in the closet, slamming it shut behind him. The crash reverberated around the room. It was louder than he realized, and he could only hope that whoever was coming did not hear him. Calm down. Act innocent.

When the door flew open, he fed his excuse to his classmate. "I was trying to figure out if this place was haunted. I haven't found anything, yet. What about you?"

He paused, unsure if there was anything else he could or should say. But his head kept moving involuntarily, sneaking glances to the closet like there was a pretty girl over there. Stop that. You'll give yourself away. Hopefully he doesn't ask about it.

Belle felt the floorboards tremble around her. It scared her head to foot and all around. "Really, John? Of course this place is haunted. We were not born yesterday!" Belle interjected sarcastically. She looked over at the closet. Something was definitely off. Or was it a ghost?

Lisa was staring at the piece of paper in her hands when she heard the sound of a door opening. Someone’s here. I can’t let them know I’ve found the clue. She quickly stuffed it back into the hole in the wall pushing a piece of furniture in front of it which created a loud clattering noise when a box of assorted junk fell to the floor.

She was almost to the door when it flew open revealing Jared a boy she recognized from school. “What am I doing here? I’m looking for the next clue. As long as we’re both here do you want to work together? I can check this room while you check the one next to it.” She hoped it wasn’t obvious that she was trying to get him out of there.

Who could have been there? The clue could not be revealed yet! Then she saw the trash on the floor. Jared? Of all people? He could not find the next clue. It was gonna be hers! She was already working with Lisa. She needed to somehow get rid of him...

Sky must have jumped a foot in the air when Jared appeared at the door. She had been so absorbed that she hadn't heard him approaching, but now that he was here she glared at him and pressed a finger to her lips, signaling for him to be quiet. She beckoned him forward, and then turned her attention back to the small form in front of her. It was smoky and ill defined, but clearly humanoid, about the size of a small toddler. The apparition was curled on its side, as if fast asleep.

"Why are you here?" Sky mouthed to her new companion, careful not to wake the sleeping form.

Andromeda shrieked as she spun around, only to see Jared instead of the ghost or monster she had expected.

“Merlin’s beard, Jared. Way to announce yourself. You almost gave me a heart attack.”

Andromeda stood up and brushed off her pants.

“If you must know,” she continued with a wry smile. “I’m exploring the haunted house. It’s just sitting here, abandoned. But hey, check it out.”

Andromeda rummaged around in her pocket and pulled out a rusty key ring with four bronze keys on it.

“Creepy, right? I found them under a loose floorboard.” Andromeda paused.

“Ok, full disclosure, I may have tripped and broke the floorboard, and then they happened to be under there. But finding them sounds better."

Andromeda reached out her hand to dangle the keys in front of his face.

“Want to help me out? It could be fun?”

The room filled with silence as Mr Braithwaite realised he had company."Well, hello there, son, seems we both had the same idea." He moved forward brushing dirt from his hands.
"You live down the road, don't you?"
Mr Braithwaite whistled an old tune, "I was just curious, to see if I could get the tap off, mine is busted, you see. No harm, no one lives here." He smiled in an uneasy way that said a tap was not all he was looking for.
"Did you come here on your own, boy?"

Amanda squeaked in surprise, dropping the brown paper she had been reading by her flashlight. She whirled around and face Jared, frowning slightly.

"What am I doing here? What are you doing here, little brother?"

She eyed her twin suspiciously. He'd never dared to come into the house before, though she was well aware the kids in the neighborhood dared each other to enter. However, she was not superstitious.

"Nevermind," she waved at him. "Now that you are here, you can help me. Look what I found!"

She picked up the paper and showed him. It was old and leathery, like a thick paper that had been run through the wash too many times. Amanda had found it in an old book documenting the town's history that she found at the local library. It was some kind of blueprint of the house, but there were markings on it, like a treasure map.

"I think there is something here," she revealed. "But I think I am in the wrong room because this map shows a fireplace in the room I need to go in. It must be one of the other doors out there."

She picked up the flashlight and grabbed his arm.

"Come on, let's see if we can find where ever this map leads!"

"Oh my!" Lucille jumped in surprised, the flashlight flying out of her hand and landing loudly on the dirty floor, sending a cloud of dust up to cover both herself and the boy who had startled her.

"I'm so sorry," the young woman hurried to apologize, nearly causing herself a coughing fit as some of the dust reached her lungs. "I didn't hear you, and then… Wait, what are you doing here?" she asked, mirroring what the boy had asked her.

"I used to come here when I was younger, it used to be the scariest place… And I just wanted to come visit now that I'm all grown, to see if it's still so scary." Lucille explained, laughing quietly at her own nostalgic silliness. "I've got to admit, it's isn't half as bad as I remembered. Unless… You aren't a ghost, are you?"

Sammy was busily setting up her video camera, determined to finally capture a sighting of a ghost on film when she heard the sound of a floorboard creaking loudly. Her head snapped up, senses heightened and the hairs on the back of her neck tingling. Flicking on her torch, she turned towards the door and feeling inside her backpack for something she could use in case the intruder turned out to be hostile. She was only fifteen and slight of build, and she did not fancy her chances in a fight, but as the door opened, she breathed a sigh of relief - it was only Jared! She lowered the book she had ready to throw.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"Er, nothing," she said, attempting to block the camera from his view. "Wait, what are you doing here?" she asked, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.

Professor Sophia Calderez sat grading papers at her grandfather's large antique desk. She loved coming to the ancestral home to prepare lectures for Postmortem Studies. This place has the ambiance for it, she thought as she took a sip of coffee. She frowned as she read the paper she was holding, sighing as she reached for her red pen. She scribbled a note to the student to see her after class. The third-years are just not grasping the historic details. How could I make the subject more interesting?

"Hello, is anybody home?" Probably another scared teenager come to check out rumors of this haunted place. Sophia heard the floorboards squeak as the person approached. She sat back in her chair, which gave a large screech of protest, and waited for the inevitable question. She did not have to wait long.

"What are you doing here?" asked the third-year student.

"Ah, hello Jared. I'm grading papers from your class." And then, with a stroke of insight she asked, "Would you like a tour of my ancestral home? I could tell you about the ghosts, and maybe one of them would grace us with their presence this evening." And if this works well, perhaps I could bring the entire class. Nothing like some real-life experience to enhance education!

"Even if you're not up for the tour, I'd be happy to make you a hot cocoa. I was just heading to the kitchen to make some more coffee for myself. You'd be most welcome to join me." With that, Sophia pressed a hidden button on the wall and the bookcase slid aside noiselessly to reveal an old-fashioned kitchen.

Oliver paused in his ransacking at the sound of a door creaking, freezing in place, not daring to even breathe as he strained his ears, catching a faint voice. Crap! Kids again! When will they leave well enough alone here? he wondered as he quietly tried to shut the decaying dresser drawer he had been rummaging in, his search for his old partner’s stash of stolen goods on hold yet again. He needed to get rid of this kid, and quickly, but he also needed to be careful. He didn’t want to attract unwanted attention to his being there or do anything that would bring the police in to investigate.

Looking around the room, the haggard looking thief’s dim flashlight beam alighted on a dusty old armchair, stirring a plan in his mind. Oliver hastily snatched up his duffel bag and grabbed a notebook and pen from it, that he had been using to track his search of the decrepit old house. Sitting down carefully, praying the chair didn’t crumble under his weight, he set the notebook on his knees and opened it to a blank page and rested his flashlight on the arm of the chair just as the loose floorboard in the hall gave a soft creak.

Running his hands to smooth his jaw length black hair, he affixed a pleasant, calm expression on his scruffy face, attempting to look harmless, before fixing his deep blue eyes to the blank page and beginning to scratch away with his pen. The door squeaked open and Oliver feigned a look of surprise as he lifted his blue eyes up to find a young boy standing in the door way.

Bringing a small smile to his lips and shutting his notebook on his finger, Oliver answered the boy’s question with a steady, gentle lull to his voice, “Well, one could ask the same of you son. This isn’t exactly a playground.”

Looking the boy up and down, Oliver leaned forward and whispered conspiratorially, “Get sent on a dare, did you? That happens a lot here.” Chuckling, he stood and held out his hand toward the boy. “Congratulations on your brave attempt to navigated the not-so-haunted premises. Unfortunately, the most dangerous thing here, is probably the risk of tetanus from a rusty nail .”

Carina froze as she heard someone come in the house. It both frightened and relieved her. She knew it wasn't a ghost because they didn't make those noises. She knew it had to be a human, but why.? Everyone knew this place was haunted, or so they say. She had never seen anything in all the years she had been coming here.
She moved to the door and peered out. She saw a younger teenager walking slowly towards her. She quickly stepped out and showed herself. SHE WAITED A MINUTE TO SEE WHAT HE WOULD DO.
Nothing happened. Then at the same time they each asked "What are you doing here?" She started laughing and he joined in. IT BROKE THE TENSION.

The professor looked up as Jared opened the door. He vaguely knew that the neighborhood kids would dare each other to enter the supposedly abandoned house every so often. He hadn't pegged Jared as one to accept the dares.
"Oh I could ask the same of you, Jared," the professor replied, "don't you know not to enter other people's homes without permission?" The professor knew that most people regarded his home as haunted, abandoned, or the like. But really he just couldn't be bothered with the upkeep. It was expensive. It was time consuming. And the lack of proper upkeep made decorating for Halloween ever so easy.
"Would you like a tour?" the professor asked, holding open the door that Jared had previously opened. He paused, waiting for a reply.

Laina grabbed the white fabric hidden behind the dusty couch, spraying dust everywhere. She coughed violently, stumbling into a nearby table. Oops, hopefully the bang wasn't as loud as she thought. Laina adjusted the fabric, determining where the two eyeholes were, before noticing a slight hole, probably from some mice in the house.

Laina grabbed her cellphone to illuminate the hole for a better look, and as she raised the fabric above her head, she heard a creak. The door opened, revealing her classmate, Jared who stared wide-eyed at her.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

She knew, from his point of view, all he could see was a tiny girl raising a ghost-shaped costume.... woops.

Laina fumbled to hide the ghost costume, but she knew it was too late.

Uhhh, I can explain, I swear she replied, her voice hitching with surprise.

This place needs a lot of work...but with some improvement...this could become an awesome hideout. Hah, as if this place is really haunted. Tari traced her finger along the wall, grimy black dust coating the tip of her hand. Well, a lot of work. She admitted to herself, surveying the room. It was full of empty boxes.

"I wonder what caused the stories of hauntings in the first place." She mused to herself. Suddenly, she heard a loud creeeeeeak as the door opened. Nobody ever dares come here! Who's here? She froze up and she slowly stepped towards the door, afraid to see whatever was making the noise. Someone called.

Tari's shoulders slumped in relief. Of course there isn't any ghosts. If I just stay quiet...maybe they won't find me. It was just bad luck as a boy opened the door and stared straight at her. "Uhh...same as you." She stammered. "Umm....exploring." Her eyes darted to the other door across the room.

How fast can I get there? She thought. Suddenly, she darted forward, lunging for the door. She was plunged into darkness as she sprinted forward, the door slamming shut of its own accord behind her. A chill shivered down her spine.
