Instagram is a social media service with the main focus of sharing photos and videos. It was created in 2010, but has had many updates over time, with so many features and benefits that make it perfect to use for HEX. It is an app, which is available on both Apple and Android phones, and also a website which makes it accessible for users on computers and laptops too.

HEX's Instagram address is https://www.instagram.com/hexrpg. MAKING AN ACCOUNT
So you want to make an Instagram account. The process is fairly simple and easy. After you’ve installed the Instagram app, which you can do in the App Store for iOS devices and the Google Play Store for Android devices, you’ll need to open it to start making an account. Your screen should look something like this. Once you’re on that screen, you’re good to go.

1. You have two ways to make an account. You can sign in with your Facebook account, which will use information you’ve inputted into Facebook to make your account. Or, you can register with your phone or email. For the purpose of this tutorial, we’ll be doing the latter.

2. To start the process, click where it says ‘Create new account’ (for iOS devices) or ‘Sign up with email or phone number’ (for Android devices). It should lead you to a screen that looks like
this.

3. Decide on whether you’ll be registering with your email or phone number. Once you’ve decided, type the information into the appropriate tab and click ‘next’.

4. You should now be in a screen that that looks a little like
this. Type in your name, it can be your first name or your first and last name, and the password you’re going to use. Once you’re done filling out the required information, you have two options. You can continue without syncing your contacts or you can choose to sync your contacts, which means that Instagram will show you your contacts’ Instagram accounts, if they registered with their phone number.

5. After you’ve decided whether or not you’ll be syncing your contacts, you should be taken to
a screen that asks for your birthday. This is to ensure that you are thirteen or older, as Instagram is meant for that demographic.

6. Your account is now created! You should come across a screen that looks like
this, which gives you the option to continue on setting up your account or changing your username, which Instagram has randomly generated for you using your name and email.

SETTING UP YOUR ACCOUNT
You’ve successfully created your Instagram account! Now what? It’s time to set it up, of course! This includes finding people to follow, adding a profile picture, and so much more!

1. After you’ve left
this screen, you should be on a screen that gives you the option to connect to Facebook. Connecting to Facebook isn’t mandatory and this option is purely so you can find your Facebook friends on Instagram, giving you the option to follow them.

2. Once you’ve chosen whether or not you’ll connect to Facebook, you’ll be taken to
a screen that asks if you want to add a profile photo. If you choose to add a profile photo, you’ll be prompted to find an image via your files or gallery. Once you’ve picked your image, you’ll be able to crop your photo however you’d like. Then, you’ll get a screen that shows you that your profile photo is added and gives you the option to post it to your feed.

3. Afterwards, you’ll be
shown a list of celebrities and public figures you can choose to follow.

4. Then, you’ll be taken to your nearly completed profile, which looks a little like
this. You can add a bio by clicking on ‘edit profile’. You’ll be taken to a screen that looks like this. Type in whatever you’d like to have on your bio in the space that says ‘bio’. You can choose to put hashtags or tag users in your bio. You’ll also have the option to link a website in the website space, change your name, and even change your username!

5. You’ve successfully completed setting up your account! Your completed profile should look something like
this.

VERIFYING YOUR ACCOUNT
Now that your account is created and your profile completed, you need to make sure that your email or phone number is confirmed. This ensures that A) you’re not a robot and B) that if you’re ever locked out of your account or lost your password, you’ll have a way to get in.

1. If you signed up with your phone number, Instagram should have sent you a verification code. Type in that code when needed and you’re good to go!

2. If you signed up with an email, you should have gotten an email that looks like
this. Just click on the blue button that says ‘confirm your email address’ to do so and voila! Your email is now confirmed!

POSTING
There are 2 main ways of posting:
1. On your feed -
To do this, you just need to click on the '+' at the bottom middle of your screen (you cannot do this on the website, unfortunately). You'll then have the option to post a photo, video or something from your gallery. Choose whatever you like and then click on next in the top right corner. If you want to choose more than one image to most, there is a symbol that looks like a stack of paper in the bottom right corner of the preview image. Next, you have the option to choose a filter. When you are done, or you choose not to use one, click on next again. This will bring you to a new screen where you have the option to add a caption, tag people and add a location. This section is fairly self-explanatory, as each feature is labelled explicitly. Click share and you're done!

1. Finding the posting section from your feed.
2. Finding a post/choosing multiple posts.
3. Using filters.
4. Captions/tags/locations.

2. On your story -
Go to your main feed and swipe right, or click on the image of your profile picture in the top left corner. This will bring you to a screen that looks a lot like your camera might. You can take a photo or video or swipe up and use a photo from your gallery. This is where you have the option to edit your photo. You can draw and write on it, or add a sticker or interactive feature. To draw, you click on the pen symbol, to type, you click on the text symbol and to add a sticker/interactive feature, click on the sticker symbol. Then click on the top right arrow and you have the option to add it to your story. Click on this, and then click 'done' at the bottom of your screen.

1. Finding the story section from your feed.
2. Taking a photo, or finding one from your gallery.
3. Stickers/drawing/typing.
4. Sharing it your story.
5. Finishing up.

HIGHLIGHTS
Posts on your story will only stay there for 24 hours, so if you wish to make it more permanent, there is the option of highlights. To create one of these, go to your account page. There will be a '+/new' button underneath your bio. Click on this and then choose the photos from your story you wish to add to your highlight. Click 'done' and you will be brought to a screen where you can name your highlight. Then click done. If you wish to add posts, click on the highlight from your account. Then click the 3 little dots in the bottom right and click 'edit highlight'. Swipe over to 'add', click on the posts you want and then click done!

1. Finding the highlights section.
2. Choosing the posts for your highlight.
3. Naming the highlight.
4. An example of a highlight.
5. Editing your highlight.
6. Adding new posts to your highlight.

SENDING POSTS
Because Instagram is a social media, there are ways to specifically send posts to people, or to your story. This is fairly simple. Just find the post you want to send and click on the arrow at the bottom. It looks very similar to the DM symbol. Then choose who you want to send it to.

1. The sharing function on a post.
