+ Have you ever been influenced to try or buy a product from someone you follow online?
I don't really follow celebrities or influencers So, no?

+ Do you think Influencers might become the new way of doing advertising, instead of commercials in the future?
Eh, not for me. I really can't see myself following someone just to get advice on what to buy. Well, actually, I take that back. I am a Mom, and I would follow another mom who can find cheap awesome products for my kids. So possibly, but I don't think it will replace other forms of advertising. People aren't trusting enough for that, everyone thinks "there's gotta be something behind this..."

+ Do you have a favourite Influencers on Social Media? If so who and what branch do they cover?
A cheap mom poster on facebook, but I honestly dont even know her name!

+ Would you ever consider becoming an influencer if you were active on Social Media or YouTube?
Absolutely not. Who would listen to me? No body! 😂

~~ When I was much younger I tried a makup advertised on TV. It Was OK but I didn't like the way it felt. I rarely used makeup except for lipstick.

+ Do you think Influencers might become the new way of doing advertising, instead of commercials in the future?
~~ I don't know. I do know that I can't abide a half-hour, hour, or more of someone trying to get me to buy something. I avoild them like a plague.

+ Do you have a favourite Influencers on Social Media? If so who and what branch do they cover?
~~ No! As I said, I won't watch them. I find them boring or irritating.

+ Would you ever consider becoming an influencer if you were active on Social Media or YouTube?
~~ LOL, maybe if I were offered an astronomical amount of money but not otherwise.

Nope, I try to make judgments for myself.

+ Do you think Influencers might become the new way of doing advertising, instead of commercials in the future?

I do not think so. I think this is a fad and will fall out of favor soon. More and more people are having less faith.

+ Do you have a favourite Influencers on Social Media? If so who and what branch do they cover?

No I do not. I tend to stay away from influencers, because I do not want to be under another's power. too many people are "influenced" and it turns out badly for people in general.

+ Would you ever consider becoming an influencer if you were active on Social Media or YouTube?

Again no. I do not think I have the right to impose my belief systems on others or to imply that my opinions are more valid than theirs.

All the time! I spend most of my time at work listening to Youtube videos and many creators are endorsed. I built my PC in the Fall of 2018 from primarily products that were recommended by tech tubers/influencers. They're credible sources of tech info and without a doubt knew more about PC parts than I did at the time. I do the same thing with makeup products. For me, it's the best way of finding out about a product before buying it.

+ Do you think Influencers might become the new way of doing advertising, instead of commercials in the future?
Absolutely, and I think it'll be effective. Some companies have already resorted to this method of advertising. The fps game Apex Legends premiered this way. They did absolutely no advertising at all prior to the launch & just paid a bunch of Twitch streamers & gamers to play the game when it came out... and it worked. Most of the gamers LOVED the game and it was very well received. The popularity of Apex Legends skyrocketed in that first month. It was insanely popular for a game noone had even know was coming out.

+ Do you have a favourite Influencers on Social Media? If so who and what branch do they cover?
I have a ton, almost exclusively on Youtube & Twitch since those are the only social media platforms I frequent.
Tech News/Tips: Linus Tech Tips, Bitwit, HardwareCanucks, Paul's Hardware, CNET
Gaming: gameranx, WhatCulture Gaming, BeatEmUps, Stumpt, IGN, Markiplier, Playstation Access, and more.
The Sims 4: Vixella, lilsimsie, Deligracy, James Turner, Plumbella
Overwatch: Stylosa, Your Overwatch, Overwatch Central, BTC
TV Shows/Movies: Screen Rant, Looper, WhatCulture

+ Would you ever consider becoming an influencer if you were active on Social Media or YouTube?
Absolutely, but only for Youtube & Twitch. I actually attempted to become a Youtube creator back in 2018, before building my PC. I made a few videos for the Sims (the game I was playing at the time), but eventually lost interest in video editing due to how time consuming it was, and dropped that hobby. I hope to one day pick it back up, as I've got the perfect setup for it & I spend alot of my time playing games anyways.

+ Have you ever been influenced to try or buy a product from someone you follow online?
No, never. I do my research on anything I want to buy and get advice from friends who might have bought the same thing. I'd rather trust someone I know about products than soneone who gets paid to see stuff.

+ Do you think Influencers might become the new way of doing advertising, instead of commercials in the future? I bloody hope not.

+ Do you have a favourite Influencers on Social Media? If so who and what branch do they cover? Nope, I don't - I don't follow or pretty much know any influencers.

+ Would you ever consider becoming an influencer if you were active on Social Media or YouTube? Only if I was giving actual facts and truths about the product, good or bad. If anything, I'd like to rate products intended for curly hair because there are a lot of "big brands" that do supposed products for curly hair that are absolute trash, so I'd like to show other curlies the products that are good for curls and the ones that are awful.

I have not ever been influenced to buy or try something from someone I follow online. It is very difficult to influence me on those sorts of things. I do not think influences will replace commercials in advertising. There are some people who will not buy it. They will probably use both ways of marketing from now on. I do not have a favourite influence. I do not believe in what influencers do. I would never become an influencer either. It isn't my type of thing.

I have never been influenced to buy something form someone I follow online. That is mainly because I do not follow any influencers, so I am quite safe

+ Do you think Influencers might become the new way of doing advertising, instead of commercials in the future?
Yes, probably, but I think that old style commercials will continue as well. Not everyone wants to follow influencers. They are simply people paid to promote stuff.

+ Do you have a favourite Influencers on Social Media? If so who and what branch do they cover?
No, I do not know any influencers.

+ Would you ever consider becoming an influencer if you were active on Social Media or YouTube?
No way. It is not something that I would enjoy doing. I do not even want to watch others doing it.

MONTHLY MUSINGS ~ CURRENT TOPIC
MAR 01, '20

How was it that festivals like Woodstock prospered in a time when Social Media wasn't even around? Now, because of Social Media, festivals sell out in just hours (no thanks to the evils of resellers like Ticketmaster and StubHub) only for the prices to be astronomically high and with the pressure on as the posts slowly break your heart knowing you missed your ticket. Have you ever bought that expensive ticket because of the torment of Social Media? Did you just have to go to Coachella?
Well, I decided I had to. It wasn't Coachella, but I did drop well over a grand for a festival ticket. All those posts just slowly eating away at your resolve - this might be the only chance I'd ever have to see Bauhaus! I would just die without seeing them. No matter the fact this festival is on the other side of the country.

Though does it ever make you wonder - how did we know our favorite artists were going on tour before Social Media? How did we know records were being released? Street teams and record store advertisements are now a thing of the past. In fact, I have record store ads from the mid 90's as collector's items. What will our grandchildren collect? With everything so easily within our reach, including the use of streaming services, do you think music isn't quite as coveted as it once was? Or perhaps the musicians not quite as appreciated as they once were?

> Who is your favorite artist and how did you find them? How long have you been a fan and how has the time changed how you followed them?
> Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?
> Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?
> Okay, I shit you not this is legit the festival of my gothy little teenage dreams. So imagine the festival of your dreams in the city of your dreams. Where is it and what's the lineup?
> So maybe music isn't your thing. Tell me though, what is something you are passionate about that you melt on the inside for? Comic con? Broadway? Maybe even a charity dear to you?

These questions are meant to get your minds pondering the topic. They in no way limit you on what you can say or answer. Keep the conversation going to qualify for a chance to be our Muse of the Month. Keep this thread on watch as new topics are posted twice a month.

> Who is your favorite artist and how did you find them? How long have you been a fan and how has the time changed how you followed them?
I don't really have 1 favourite artist, but I have a few that I've found few different ways. Some are due to friends or family members liking it and having me listen (Nightwish, Avril Lavigne), whereas others are more so due to the radio (Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift). I don't know the concept of time so I honestly don't know how long I've been a fan of any of them, although I think for most of my favourites it's a while. Time hasn't really changed much about how I follow them but has changed most of their styles which has changed my opinion slightly for some.

> Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?
This is a hard one to answer I find. It feels like it's not had much of an influence, but then there's certain songs that really got famous through social media, and even if I found about it from the radio it's still there due to Social Media having made it famous. xD It makes things spread a lot quicker and maybe further than it usually would, so I think it does open our horizons.

> Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?
Nothing I think? That's very boring but yeah.

> Okay, I shit you not this is legit the festival of my gothy little teenage dreams. So imagine the festival of your dreams in the city of your dreams. Where is it and what's the lineup?
I dont really have an answer for this one either, I think. xD I'd hate festivals due to the crowdedness. Maybe Reykjavik? Band-wise it's harder though as I like such different music styles, but something like Within Temptation, Nightwish, Little Mix, Against the Current, and Cimorelli?

> So maybe music isn't your thing. Tell me though, what is something you are passionate about that you melt on the inside for? Comic con? Broadway? Maybe even a charity dear to you?
I mean music is my thing but it isn't something I'm particularly passionate about so I'll go for this too. I've always been kinda passionate about anti-bullying and pride related things. I follow a lot of things on fb and twitter relating to it and had some things I did in school that related to it too

> Who is your favorite artist and how did you find them? How long have you been a fan and how has the time changed how you followed them?

My favorite artist has to be Linkin Park. Been at least 8 years I would say. My son is the one that told me about them. I've been using Spotify to listen to them as well as other bands I like. In my younger days, I would have had to catch them on the radio or buy albums/cassettes/cds

> Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?

No - can't say I've started listening to anyone because of Social Media. Most of the new artists I listen to come from family/friend recommendations

> Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?

Oh there are so many items I see advertised on Social Media that I'm willing to bet look nothing like the actual item. But then again - that's true of most media. Think about the burgers you see advertised. Now think about the burger you actually get?

> Okay, I shit you not this is legit the festival of my gothy little teenage dreams. So imagine the festival of your dreams in the city of your dreams. Where is it and what's the lineup?

Where would be easy - my hometown! As to who - well, one of the groups I'd want would be Linkin Park - but with Chester gone, that'd be hard. But other acts: Disturbed, Seether; Puddle of Mudd; Ozzie; 3 Doors Down; Alterbridge; Avenged Sevenfold; Shinedown; Skillet; among many others

> So maybe music isn't your thing. Tell me though, what is something you are passionate about that you melt on the inside for? Comic con? Broadway? Maybe even a charity dear to you?

My son is a HUGE Comic Con fan. He goes every year. I've seen only one thing on Broadway and one here in my hometown.

> Who is your favorite artist and how did you find them? How long have you been a fan and how has the time changed how you followed them?
I have SO many favourite artists I always struggle to pick one, but the first I always mention is Twenty One Pilots. I first heard of them in early 2013 because one or two of their music videos showed up in my recommendations feed on YouTube, and wasn't really into them at first, but a few months later I gave them another chance and fell in love. Time really hasn't changed anything for me, I still follow them in the same way - the only difference is how they blew up in 2015 and are massive now.
Another is BTS, who I've loved since 2015. I first listened to them when I randomly decided to give kpop a chance and 5 years later they remain my favourite group. Again, time hasn't changed anything and the only difference is that now they're one of the biggest groups in the world.

> Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?
I don't think so? I mean, I mentioned how I wasn't into TOP at first, but I didn't have a whole "I wouldn't be caught dead listening to them" attitude about it.
I think for the most part, social media has opened our horizons. Or it certainly has for me, because there's SO many musicians I've discovered only through recommended feeds on YouTube and Spotify or through Twitter and that's been great.

> Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?
Not having to work a "real job" and getting to just be at home all the time. I know in reality it's really stressful trying to make ends meet that way and not having much of a work-life balance if you're self-employed and/or doing it all from home.
Or, you know... just being rich in general.

> Okay, I shit you not this is legit the festival of my gothy little teenage dreams. So imagine the festival of your dreams in the city of your dreams. Where is it and what's the lineup?
Dunno about location, and I can't really imagine a lineup either because my music taste is so ridiculously diverse. Like, my favourite artists are post-hardcore, rock, pop-punk, kpop, punk, melodic hardcore, emo, spoken word, a bit of pop... So like... it's a wee bit messy... Maybe like... my good old emo legends Fall Out Boy (circa 2008, or even 2013), My Chemical Romance, Paramore, the original Panic! At The Disco, Linkin Park, and a ton of other noughties emo and pop-punk bands.
Mama Philly's suggestion is solid though, lol

> So maybe music isn't your thing. Tell me though, what is something you are passionate about that you melt on the inside for? Comic con? Broadway? Maybe even a charity dear to you?
Hex. And things related to Pride and social justice causes in general. Even though I've never gotten to be involved in any of them in person myself.

> Who is your favorite artist and how did you find them? How long have you been a fan and how has the time changed how you followed them?

I have waaaaaaay too many to list here because every time someone brings out a new song they're my favourite and then another time others are. Basically it can change rapidly

> Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?

Not really. It's either been songs on the radio or they've sung in a movie I love. (Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott. Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell are good examples of these)

> Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?

I don't really know. I mean I love everything and if it's something I'm into or love a lot then it's still magical no matter what.

> Okay, I shit you not this is legit the festival of my gothy little teenage dreams. So imagine the festival of your dreams in the city of your dreams. Where is it and what's the lineup?

Somewhere like London or New York or Vancouver and Merlin.... Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud, Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Celine Dion, Westlife, Taylor Swift and possibly The Corrs

> So maybe music isn't your thing. Tell me though, what is something you are passionate about that you melt on the inside for? Comic con? Broadway? Maybe even a charity dear to you?

Writing mainly, new books from favourite authors that are coming out as well

Neil Diamond. I heard one of his songs on the radio. I have been a fan since 1970. Time hasn't changed much. The only difference is I listen to his music on a cd instead of a record.
Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?
No. I don't use social media. I guess it could open your horizons by introducing you to musicians you had never heard of.
Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?
I don't use Social Media. Like anything else portrayed by the media...they make it look better than it really is. Everything from food comercials to cruises. None of it is as good as the advertisers make it look.
Okay, I shit you not this is legit the festival of my gothy little teenage dreams. So imagine the festival of your dreams in the city of your dreams. Where is it and what's the lineup?
My hometown. I can't imagine it happening...to big of a diversity. Neil Diamond, Osmonds, Nathan Pacheco, Home Free, Peter Hollens, Warrant, Kiss, Metallica, Newsboys
So maybe music isn't your thing. Tell me though, what is something you are passionate about that you melt on the inside for? Comic con? Broadway? Maybe even a charity dear to you?
Science Fiction/Fantasy conventions...smaller ones. Things like Comic Con are just to large and NOT enjoyable. I have been to hundreds of smaller fan run conventions, which have turned out to be some of the best experiences. Everything from meeting life long friends to finding new fandoms.
The other thing I am passionate about is reading. I mainly read Science fiction and fantasy. I can't imagine life without books. It would not be worth living.

When it comes to pop-type music, I have three favorites: Florence + the Machine, Paramore, Sara Bareilles. I think I mostly found them through my public library! My dad used to take me every weekend and we would rent 10 music CDs, the maximum number we were allowed. My dad helped me copy my favorite songs on to the computer and burn mix CDs. I have a lot of mix CDs now and nowhere to play them except the car. I can't think of any artists I discovered through social media. When I first went to college, I asked everyone I met to recommend music because all I knew were the music CDs from my library. I mostly checked them out through YouTube, which is kind of a social media I guess? And now I listen on Spotify, which I could link to my Facebook if I wanted to, but I don't. There's definitely some kind of algorithm there that recommends more songs based on what I just listened to, and generates custom playlists and stuff like that. I think it opens horizons! A lot of the music I listen to now, I would not have ever clicked on if I hadn't been offered a custom playlist.

I honestly cannot imagine enjoying myself at a music festival. I don't like heat, or being outside, or live music (sorry, sorry, I know). I just want to listen to music in the comfort of my own bed. Since you mentioned it, I do love Comic Con though. It's the one time of year I am able to set aside my fear of crowds and dive into an overcrowded convention hall and love every second of it. I totally believe other people have that experience with music festivals!! They are just not for me.

Tom Petty without a doubt. I heard him first a long time ago at a high school dance and he has been with me ever since.

> Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?

I cannot say that I have. I generally find new artists through friends. Now there is no saying they did not find them through Social media influence, lol.

> Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?

You know, I have never had that issue come up, lol.

I have no idea, lol, where it would be. And as for the line up, it would be long and eclectic. Tom Petty, Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, The Foo fighters, The Scorpions . . on and on! 

I have a number of favourite artists, but none whom I'd call my absolute favourite. Mostly, I've learnt to judge on the basis of the song/music piece itself, rather than relying on a particular artist, because my music tastes are varied.

Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?
Plenty! Sometimes, social media has led to the discovery of some of my most cherished songs. So, I truly believe that social media opens our horizons. However, places like Facebook, that depends heavily on algorithms really frustrates me at times, because of their similar recommendations all the time. Like, I want to be exposed to different kinds of music, not listen to similar brands of music all the time!!

Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?
Life of Instagram influencers 😑 From the viewer's standpoint, it seems like a dream lifestyle, visiting places, going on adventures, exploring new regions and cultures, wearing the latest styles and brands, always looking like they're ready to pose....however, in reality, it's actually a tough job and it's not all smiles and rainbows!

Okay, I shit you not this is legit the festival of my gothy little teenage dreams. So imagine the festival of your dreams in the city of your dreams. Where is it and what's the lineup?
Lineup will be varied and diverse. Must have Kodaline, if nobody else. Location will be Paris or Venice because they are dream cities for me!

> Who is your favorite artist and how did you find them? How long have you been a fan and how has the time changed how you followed them?
~~ My favoite artist is still Freddy Mercury, he was a member of the band called Queen. He passed away in 1991 but I still listen to the albums I have and watch him on youtube frequently

> Have you happened upon any artists you never thought you'd be caught dead listening to just because of Social Media's influence? Do you think it opens our horizons or limits them because of the algorithms?
~~ Acutally I spend no time at all on Social Media except for HEX and occasionally YouTube So I can't really answer this.

> Everything looks better on Social Media. What is something you see on Social Media that you absolutely dream of but know in reality it's not quite as magical as it seems?
