I've never been into Halloween (we don't really 'do' it here in the UK as they do in the States), and I've never believed in ghost or the supernatural. However, a few years ago I had a genuine experience with a ghost and it's sort of altered my perceptions.

I have a very close friend who used to live in a little cottage which he always said was haunted by a friendly ghost who was known as George. This friend of mine is very straight-to-the-point/no-nonsense so I always thought it was weird that he would talk about it a lot as he is very factual and would normally roll his eyes at that sort of stuff.

Anyway, a few years ago I was at his house with another friend of mine and we were having a BBQ in the garden. I went upstairs to go to the bathroom and while I was sitting on the toilet the door handle started rattling and I heard someone outside the door saying repeatedly that they needed to get in. Thinking it was one of my friends I said "I'll be out in a minute", but when I opened the door the upstairs corridor was empty.

Both my friends were still outside drinking their beers and when I mentioned it to them neither of them said they had been upstairs but my friend who owned the house said "That's probably George, he's done that to me before".

😱

- What was your favourite article in October's edition of The Quibbler? Why?
I didn't read the October edition. I went to the forum and September was still showing. I couldn't find a way to get to October.

- Is your house, or the house of someone you know, haunted? Have you had any spooky experiences in it?
No, my house isn't haunted. Nor is anyone's that I know.

- Have you ever been to the kind of haunted house that you pay to enter, where actors and actresses dress up to scare you? Did you find it scary?
I remember being in one once at Halloween, but it was many years ago. Perhaps it was at an amusement park. I don't even remember where or when exactly it was. I didn't find it particularly scary.

- If you were given the chance to haunt someone's house, who would it be and why? What kind of mischief would you get up to inside?
Well, unfortunately I can't think of anyone's house that I'd want to haunt. If I did, though, I'd play pranks on the person to make them confused and scared.

- If given the chance, how would you design your very own haunted house? What would it look like? How would you try and scare people?
I would make it very dark and creep looking, old, filled with cobwebs and dust. A place that looks unlived in for decades. I'd put creepy, crawlys in it. That usually scares people. I'd put some skeletons in it, maybe have one pop out of a closet or a trunk when they pass by. I'd fill it with spooky laughter and scary words/sounds.

- Is your house, or the house of someone you know, haunted? Have you had any spooky experiences in it?
We always joke that our house is haunted. A couple of the lights like to flicker a lot, even though it’s not very old. We always blame it on the ghost.

- Have you ever been to the kind of haunted house that you pay to enter, where actors and actresses dress up to scare you? Did you find it scary?
I think I went in one when I was little. It was a little jump scare-y, but not like frightening scary.

- If you were given the chance to haunt someone's house, who would it be and why? What kind of mischief would you get up to inside?
Donald Trump, maybe. Just inconvenience him at every opportunity.

- If given the chance, how would you design your very own haunted house? What would it look like? How would you try and scare people?
I’d go with minimalist. No cobwebs, no flickering candles, no black cat silhouettes. Deathly silent. I’d let the suspense build and build. There would be a lot of places where you’d think something was going to jump out, but nothing would happen. Finally, when they were almost weeing with fright, I’d let rip with the biggest jumpscare of all time.

My house isn't haunted.... I think. Sometimes when I'm on the couch the floor randomly creaks. Most times my cat is walking across it but not always. So maybe it's a little haunted?
When I was younger I went on a Haunted Walk, so not really a haunted house. It was pretty long and done really well. I was only scared a few times, when the path got really dark going through the tress because the actor would jump out at that moment. Other than that I was mostly just fascinated and enjoying the work that was put into the whole walk. My friend on the other hand... she was screaming every two minutes. Her screams scared me more than anything during the walk 😂
I would haunt a newly built house. Stereotypically the older houses are haunted but I'm not about that stereotypical life. I would inconvenience them really. Or help them out, depends on if I like the people. I'd tip over a glass of water just to make them jump and then laugh as they thought of a 'realistic' reason behind it happening. Or I'd flicker the lights just to be annoying. I wouldn't really be a scary ghost, more so an irritating one. That seems fun to me.

In my house, when I or anyone else is under particular stress and worry, the smell of hand rolled tobacco smoked through a pipe begins circulating in the house. Given that nobody smokes a pipe in our housez I always wondered where it came from. Upon being able to identify the brand from the smell, with no prior knowledge, my mum was able to tell me it was my great uncle who smoked that brand, and he died shortly after I was born. My grandad also smoked it, and he passed before I was born. From time to time our kettle will statt boiling itself, things jump off the walls and shelves, but it's all meant harmlessly.

I have never been to a hunted house, but it's definitely something i want to experience, just to say I did it. I scare easily, so it's probably not the best idea, but you only live once, right?

If I were to haunt a house, I would probably come back home and hang around watching future generations grow, learn, live, laugh and live, and look out for them the aay my ancestors do for me. I'd play the odd practical joke for fun, but there would be no bad intentions on my behalf.

- Is your house, or the house of someone you know, haunted? Have you had any spooky experiences in it?
Neither of the above.

- Have you ever been to the kind of haunted house that you pay to enter, where actors and actresses dress up to scare you? Did you find it scary?
Yes, but not recently. I have in the past been to a few different ones including trails, houses and one where it was a bus ride. I don't actually get scared but I think they can be really fun to go to with friends. Sometimes when it's dark and you know someone is going to jump out I still jump and may perhaps yelp a bit lol. Even though i know it's coming.

- If you were given the chance to haunt someone's house, who would it be and why? What kind of mischief would you get up to inside?
I mean if someone asked me to work in a haunted house I would definitely dress up and try it out. Not like actual haunting as a ghost or anything but just for fun. I would move around and jump out at people lol.

- If given the chance, how would you design your very own haunted house? What would it look like? How would you try and scare people?
Dark, has to be dark. Strobe lights make a very creepy effect too. I would make it probably like a house but they would have to find their way out. Kind of maze like in parts where they might come to a dead end and have to figure it out. Sometimes just having someone stand there looking creep scares people so they don't want to walk past them. I would have someone dressed like normal go with each group and be "abducted" while they are in the house. I think that would really scare people.

What was your favourite article in October's edition of The Quibbler? Why?
I liked the Dangerous Beasts article. It was a lot of fun to read.
- Is your house, or the house of someone you know, haunted? Have you had any spooky experiences in it?
No. I don't think any place is haunted. I just think stories are made up to scare and to entertain people. The spookiest thing I have ever experienced was having a bat in the house.
- Have you ever been to the kind of haunted house that you pay to enter, where actors and actresses dress up to scare you? Did you find it scary?
No. I think it is silly to pay money to go to one. It's not real and from what I have seen in ads and on the news it would be to gory for me to be able to tolerate it. At least the ones around here. They all deal with things from horror movies (which I hate with a passion).
- If you were given the chance to haunt someone's house, who would it be and why? What kind of mischief would you get up to inside?
I would not want to haunt anyone. I think it would be wrong to play pranks and try to scare someone. Even if the person had been horrible to you, it would still be wrong. I don't beleive in ghosts anyway.
- If given the chance, how would you design your very own haunted house? What would it look like? How would you try and scare people?
I wouldn't be involved with one. If I had to it would be more of a museum showing things from supposedly haunted houses from around the world. I would not try to scare people. You never know what medical condition a person has. A fright could kill them. I think it's wrong to try and scare people.

The house I grew up in had so very odd, unexplainable things happen. I very much believe in ghosts for that reason, as well as other experiences. Several people in my family have had "encounters" for lack of a better word, but none were the kind you see in movies. Nothing super scary or nasty

As someone mentioned in a prior post, pipe tobacco scent would randomly pop up with no one smoking. It would make us smile because it was my grandpop's favorite tobacco. He had passed when I was 9.

My favorite Quibbler article was Superstitions by Armoracia. I had actually never thought about superstition dealing with haunted houses, so this was an interesting article. After I read it I did a little research and I also found out you should never spend a lot of time looking into a mirror in a haunted house because you may inadvertently invent something in.

I actually live in a house reputed to be haunted. My own experiences however are related to missing items, thins moving, shadows and once I think I walked right through the host of a civil war soldier. The funny thing is it really does make you feel like you had an ice bath dumped on you!

I have visited a haunted house made especially for the season. They were not specifically scary. At least they were only scary when something jumped out and grabbed you. Without the grab, it’s just not scary.

Haunting someone else’s house does not appeal to me. I like the idea of haunting someplace like Hogwarts though. Interacting with the living on a daily basis would be interesting.

I do not think I would have a typical haunted house. I think to really scare people is an art. Since my boggart is an alien, I think I would base my theme on that. Crop circle corn mazes, aliens materializing through walls, that sort of thing.

Everyone knows that Slytherins are money-loving, murderous meritocrats without the merit. Oh, wait? That's just me?! I apologize to any of my housemates who don't share similar characteristics and I also hope you cower behind me when I become the next Dark Lord. However, how would I become the next Dark Lord when the omniscient Ministry is watching my every move. Well, I have nothing to fear as I am guided by the wonderful article about "Things the Ministry Doesn't Want You to Know". The idea that wizards use Muggle structures to hide from the Ministry is so ludicrous that it's a genius idea. It managed to both get a laugh out of me and made me think about how willing people are to do things for their own gain.

Anything related to haunted houses in general gets a laugh out of me, so in that sense, the article isn't that special (I apologize greatly to my fellow snake who wrote the article). A neighbor of mine moved away when I was a wee child. I thought that this meant sneaking into their house was a good idea. In my defense, my brain was also tinier than it is now, so I'm probably not quite as daft as I was back in the day.

As I trudged around the house, hoping for cookies or Harry Potter books or whatever I liked at that age, I ran into what I thought was a dark ghost—wisps of darkness, much like the Death Eaters in Harry Potter movies. My more rational friend claimed that it was just one of the curtains, but Young Sora wanted magic and continued to believe that there was a dark, but not necessarily evil, spirit haunting the house. (I also thought it could be proof I was a wizard and that I would get my Hogwarts letter a few years later. I didn't.)

After that experience, I wondered what the paid haunted houses were like. Were they anything like my neighbor's house? Perhaps it was the fact there was no thrill of sneaking in or that the actors were a little tired, but a dark house with random props in it felt more like a badly constructed high school play. However, it was fun despite a regret or two. My biggest regret about the whole thing wasn't even the money but the fact I didn't have a girlfriend who would cling onto me and entered with a bunch of random strangers.

However, I asked myself if I could do better than those who prepared the haunted house and realized I probably would have done much worse. But that still won't stop me from trying my best to scare my enemies off!

When I say enemies, I mean the parents of children. Parents, much like the Ministry of Magic, always have a thousand eyes on their children. My aim for a haunted house would be to take the parents' eyes away from their children so both parties can have fun! How does one do this? First, I'd let them enter a happy, warm place with a tiny door that the kids will definitely enter because there's an interesting noise coming from it. Once every child has gone through the door, the place will be enveloped in darkness to send the parents into chaos. At first, the parents will be absolutely terrified because what's scarier than losing sight of your child? Then, the light's will go back on and they'll hear the children laugh and tell them "It's just a prank, I love you, mum!" then go back to running around while I make bad puns that are far more terrifying than any other creature.

To perform such great deeds, I'd need to have a venue for it. I feel like the carnival would be perfect. It would be full of color, as if rainbows became humanoids and barfed themselves out. Too much color is quite an awful sight to behold. I'd have clowns all around because they're funny, but scary, so either way your money will be worth it.

Here are some questions to consider:
- What was your favourite article in October's edition of The Quibbler? Why?
By Jess Irwin, simply because Ron is one of my favorite characters!
- Is your house, or the house of someone you know, haunted? Have you had any spooky experiences in it?
My dads childhood home has always seemed spooky to me, we often stayed there as children and it creaked and groaned and was always cold, maybe it was just an old house. Then he inherited it, and modernized it. I lived in the house for a few years and they were always things going missing, lights going off and on, the electricity fusing, and long lost things appearing out of nowhere, things that we thought we’d thrown out. Was the house haunted? I don’t know, I never had a bad feeling, so maybe the ghosts of past relatives trying to keep in touch.
- Have you ever been to the kind of haunted house that you pay to enter, where actors and actresses dress up to scare you? Did you find it scary?
No, I’m a scaredy-cat and I frighten easy, something like that would probably kill me!
- If you were given the chance to haunt someone's house, who would it be and why? What kind of mischief would you get up to inside?
I would track down and haunt everyone who has ever treated me badly, it’s not a long list, but I have a long memory, and there are 4 definite souls who’d get a haunting from me they’d never forget.
- If given the chance, how would you design your very own haunted house? What would it look like? How would you try and scare people?
I’d actually make it look really bland, so that people would laugh and mock at it being a haunted house from the outside, and stepping over the threshold they would be disappointed. When they were all inside and saying how rubbish it was, then I would seal all the windows and doors, douse all the lights, and have evil smells invade their space to make them nauseous, then weird, bone chilling scraping noises, wailing, and the temperature drop to below freezing. Now the fun would start with ghost, gouls and witches all descending on them, and getting them entangled, then chasing them all over the house until they were exhausted and begged to be let out. The door would open, and an announcement made that they had 10 seconds to vacate the premises and the door would slam shut after kicking them out, while barrel organ music played.

- Is your house, or the house of someone you know, haunted? Have you had any spooky experiences in it?
When i was ten or so, my parents bought a half-finished log cabin and we always wondered if the previous owner - an old man who died of a heart attack while building the cabin - haunted it. From what I remember, he didn't and I was grateful. I always felt like I was being watched but that was probs just our nosy neighbors lol. The only spooky experience I had there was when I saw a squirrel eating fried chicken from our trash - no, seriously - and at first thought it was practicing cannibalism.

- Have you ever been to the kind of haunted house that you pay to enter, where actors and actresses dress up to scare you? Did you find it scary?
I've never went to one but thought it might be fun to go. My friend used to work at one when fall came around and he got punched; poor guy.

- If you were given the chance to haunt someone's house, who would it be and why? What kind of mischief would you get up to inside?
I think haunting a retirement home would be nice because I could keep the lonely elderly people company, welcome them to the afterlife (bc I'm sure that's scary) and listen to all the cool old-people stories elderly people tell their families. If not there, then, I'd like to haunt one of my loved ones. Home is where the heart is, right?

- If given the chance, how would you design your very own haunted house? What would it look like? How would you try and scare people?
I'm no good at scaring people/I feel a bit guilty about it. I think I'd rather pass out candy to all the brave souls who went into one lol.

My favorite article this month was Superstitions. You don't think of this time of year having to do with superstitions but here we are nearing Halloween and it is most definitely a subject for the month.

- Is your house, or the house of someone you know, haunted? Have you had any spooky experiences in it?
I have not ever been in a haunted house but I do remember one night sleeping in my mother's bed and feeling a sort of slap on my leg saying GET UP. It scared the bejeezus out of me. I think it was a

- Have you ever been to the kind of haunted house that you pay to enter, where actors and actresses dress up to scare you? Did you find it scary?
I used to work in one, it was very sticky. That's all I can say.

- If you were given the chance to haunt someone's house, who would it be and why? What kind of mischief would you get up to inside?
I would because you could do so many things to scare someone out of their wits. It is kind of fun.

- If given the chance, how would you design your very own haunted house? What would it look like? How would you try and scare people?
I would design a glass house like in 13 ghosts and make it so that they have to wear special 3d Effects glasses as they walk through. 😂😂

My favorite article was Devil's Advocate as I feel the same way, though I am a bit odd in the sense even at my age, I wish the supernatural were real. Though, if I had a Kappa in my pool, instead of just the cleaning machine that I thought was a snake trying to eat my toes, I don't think I'd have enjoyed swimming. At all.😂
Yes, my old house was haunted. Even people that were totally against the belief of supernatural things, thought our house was wacked. After an incident of a painting attacking my uncle, right in front of everyone as we watched T.V. he never came back into the house. I had my own experiences, and now jump at a specific sounding noise. My little brother, who was still in a crib, but able to walk, had a toy box in my room. Just a plastic tub. When full, even I had to push with weight to move it. In the middle of the night, I woke up to it being pushed in the room. That dragging sound on the carpet. Gah, gives me shivers. Me, thinking my brother had snuck out of his crib(sneaky little bugger had done it before) to come play, got grumbly and started telling him to go back to his bed. Well. It woke my mum up and she came in to tell me to go back to sleep. My brother had never been in my room. I dont think he could have moved the tub as much as it had anyways, but... yeah. Quite a few things happened in that house, I could probably fill a small novel with stories. but that dragging noise of the tub on carpet still makes me cringe.
Oh dang, yeah. I went to only one. Youd think with me being me, id love those sort of things. Fake haunted houses. Nooope. I went in with my family, three other siblings all younger and my stepdad and mum. Well, it was a big place. I was like. 12. My stepdad and i were messing around and got seperated from the group. Then in the dark, i wandered off intending to jumpscare my dad. Yeah, well. I seemed to have locked myself in a coffin. One of those fake ones, no latches but the door was uneven, so when it closed shut behind me when i slammed it, the uneven wood caught and stuck. Hard. I only weighed about 90 pounds at the time, so my weight did nothing. Im not claustrophobic, thank frig. But i was terrified of not being found. I was losing it. Screaming, pounding on the wood. It felt like hours but my stepdad thankfully found me and said it had only been twenty minutes. So yeeeeah. I dont go on those anymore, haha. Id say it was pretty darn scary.
I totally would haunt a house. Not sure whos though. A skeptic though. No children in residence, I just think thats kinda mean, dont want to traumatize kiddies. I just want to live in some form forever. Being able to haunt someone, or a place would be awesome. Id be one of those ghosts that at first, just moves things. Keys, phone, wallet. Not to lose them, but just to make them think like, Why are they here? Make them question themselves before finally doing a few big things to show theres something else with them.
Would i make my own house... no. Just no interest. Now if supernatural beings were real... totally. Get up some friends to join in, of course everyone thinks its fake, buuut when that ghost walks through them. Bam! Nice and scury!

I know that my previous school and my current school is haunted. Though I don't know if anyone's house. For my spooky experience, I did experience one in my former school. I was in this old building, and the place was enclosed, with no windows so there should be no air that will make the door closed. It happened in that old building's girl restroom, and no one was inside when I went there, and then suddenly the door closed with a loud bang! And there comes the newspaper of our school where the writers went to a ghost haunting in my school, and they told there that they saw a dark shadow went inside the restroom I went to!!! It was really, really scary!!!

And I did visit some haunted houses. One is when there is a carnival in my town, and the other is in fun parks where I went before with my friends and family. And I don't find it scary, but the feels are chilling.

If I would haunt someone's house, I will choose a friend's house where the location is spooky so, maybe at Rina's home, because it is beside a cemetery!!!

If I would design my haunted house, I want it to look calm and peaceful but has an aura that there something lurks around it.

I've never been in or known anyone who lived in a truly haunted house. I have been to a few paid haunted houses in amusement areas as a child and they were only mildly scary. When I was a kid my cousins and I made a "haunted house" in the basement that we led our friends through blindfolded...it included a bowl of "eyeballs" (grapes slathered in mayonnaise) and other assorted gross facsimiles on the table.
If I were to haunt a house, I wouldn't want to scare people so much that they would move away. I think I'd rather be a happy ghost and play harmless tricks on the house's occupants - like move the newspaper and mail from where it had been placed on the table, or hide the car keys in an unlikely place, or make a mirror on the wall crooked. I'd be a friendly ghost. I think I'd like to haunt the houses of a few close friends to let them know that I was still around, and still into having fun with them.
I don't think I'd design a haunted house to truly scare people; that just doesn't seem like that much fun to me. I won't watch horror films or anything really scary - I don't think being frightened is all that entertaining.
