@rainewen We're glad to hear that you've taken an interest in starting your own publication. Yes, user-led publications are generally allowed. We're still in the midst of updating our FAQs to include guidelines on user-led publications, so please don't hesitate to drop any of the Publications mod or staff an owl if you have any queries pertaining to user-led publications.

At present, you are allowed to create one thread to look for writers for your publication.

I have a question regarding to the new user submitted publication guidelines. So it says that our publication can advertise in an advertising thread assigned to us, does that mean there will be a thread made for us or do we create our own thread?

@Shimmering-Sky You may create your own advertising thread, since you would know the needs of your publication best. Just post the link in the Directory and we'll update them for you.

Thank you for the query! The FAQ has been updated to address that question.

Another question, if we want the readers to submit something for the publication can we create a thread for that as long as there is still only 3 threads for the publication in The Newsstand? e.g. Artwork, poems

Regarding the User-Publications...

I've been racking my head and talking to others about this and haven't really come to a conclusion so I thought I'd ask here.
So with the official publications, it is all hosted on another site.
The only thing is that sites usually cost money to buy a domain name and access to host whatever on them, or, if not, they have advertisements on those sites.
So then I was thinking about displaying it similar to how profiles work, with pages. But that requires html which we as users do not have access to here.
And then BBCode and publications... I have no idea how that would look, but I don't think that would work well.

So that brings me back to my original question I had - how should we display our publications? Would it be okay if we use an outside site, even if it showed up ads? Or should we code it using Bbcode? Or...?

@Shimmering-Sky For now, we require publications to stick to the 3 categories listed in the FAQ. This would greatly help us to keep track of the threads in The Newsstand. You may request for submissions from readers in the advert thread if you wish.

@HermioneDumbledore What we had in mind initially was for the publications to be in the form of threads, with each issue in a new thread. You may use an outside site if you wish, but the Hex Terms with regards to links to external sites apply.

That makes so much more sense xDDD
Would we get the option to be able to have it posted by one of the mods in html, or would we have to bbcode it?
If we did BBCode it, could we put each article in a different post and have a directory as the first post?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a gasp of what the end products may look like.
I'm super excited that this is now a feature

Haha not a problem! The questions are helping us to refine our process too.

I believe all users should have access to the html function in The Newsstand. When you are creating a new thread for the issue, just check the 'HTML' box below and your thread will be HTML-enabled.

Yup, you most definitely can put each article in a different post and have a table of contents as your first post. The structure of the publication within the thread is entirely up to you. The intention as for each issue to be allocated its own thread

You may begin every issue in a new thread. Each issue will be active for a default number of 30 days, after which the issue will be locked and archived in the Directory.

That feature only works if we have mod powers or in our stores (where we automatically have mod powers there). This is what I see here, which is a screenshot just from this post here, but the same concept applies when creating a new thread.

I never realized that! 😮 This goes to show how terribly unobservant I am. 😆

Users will have to bbcode their publications for now. The use of HTML was something that we had overlooked. We'll bring it up for discussion and let you know again.

@HermioneDumbledore Hi again and my apologies for the late reply. We've had a discussion and we feel that it is best if the posting is left entirely to the users because things might get a little complicated if the post does not turn out the way the users wanted and editing is required. HTML is not the strongest point for some of us.

If HTML is something that you are really keen on using, You may post your publication in a forum where you are a mod or an admin (in a club or in your shop forum for instance). You may also post your publication in an off-HEX website such as Tumblr.

@Jiangxi123 Yes, you may host your club's newspaper here in the Newsstand if you wish, so long as the purpose if the newspaper is not to advertise the club itself.

- Am I allowed to have a section on Adverts in my publication?
Yes, each publication is allowed to have their own page on Adverts in their publication like a regular newspaper. Advertisements for dorms, clubs, raffles etc are allowed, so long as the content adheres to the corresponding forum-specific rules, as well as the HEX Terms:
HEX Terms
Shopping Forums
Arts & Graphics Forum
Clubs Forum

You are allowed to have an advert page in your publication, much like the adverts page in a real newspaper, so long as the relevant HEX terms are adhered to.
