Elections: Suffrage for All

Do you love your house? Would you do anything for your house? Would you die for your house? You're in luck, because I've got some exciting news: House Staff Elections are going on now in all four houses!

Every six months, using our tried and true electoral process, each house elects six users to lead the way. So if you're interested in hosting awesome events for your house (and the site), organizing activities, or generally making your Common Room the place to be, you should head there right this very second. Even if this doesn't sound like the job for you, you can still make your voice count by nominating, interviewing, and voting for the people you think are best suited to run your house.

All the information you need can be found in the big stickied thread at the top of each common room. And hurry: nominations are over in a week.

Lost? Try a portkey:

Please welcome Sara11408, Tinuel, Marvinater123, VanessaAngela, Chris_phoenix, and Reneespeaks, who have all been promoted to Global Moderator. And also a big congratulations to Jeleme, Heathermonique005, Nefarious Black, and Caleneledh who have been promoted to Staff.

We are certain that will all continue to distinguish themselves in their new positions!

The Quibbler: May 2012

Shove those piles of books and parchment away for just a sec and enjoy the newest issue of the Quibbler! We know you're busy preparing for your exams (and if you're not, then you SHOULD be) but it's scientifically proven that you will study more efficiently if you're in a good mood. So let us tell you about our own perilous study sessions here at the Quibbler, and even give you some tips on how to survive the horrors to come.

If you have any questions or concerns about the Quibbler or its content, please owl Marluxia or one of the other publications staff members, Tori Tendleswift or MuggleBornMegan07. Thanks!

McGonagall's Tail

Flitwick: You do realize we can't keep out You-Know-Who indefinitely.
McGonagall: That doesn't mean we can't delay him. And his name is Voldemort, so you might as well use it, he's going to try and kill you either way.

Neville: Are you really giving us permission to do this?
McGonagall: Yes, Longbottom.
Neville: Blow it up? Boom?
McGonagall: BOOM!

Throughout the books we were able to build a pretty good picture of the Minerva McGonagall Harry knew. She was a stern, demanding Professor and person, very respected and even feared by her students. However, she was also someone who cared deeply about her students and one of the people who stood on Harry's side through and through. Fierce defender of the good, she valued bravery and loyalty and often showed a fun, dry side. However, Harry only knew her for a very small part of her life. Is this all that is to know about this avid Quidditch fan, with a huge love for cats?

Welcome to the Gryffindor Site-wide, McGonagall's Tail. In this event, we will try to share with you some of the hidden story that only very recently was revealed about McGonagall's life. We hope you have fun in the process and enjoy the contests we set up for you.

End of an Era... of sorts.

Due to the steady decline of raffles, Fortune's Alley will be closing down soon. All users will be given one week to move their raffle threads to Diagon Alley. All raffles will be moving back into Diagon Alley, but that does not mean that the rules are necessarily changing completely.

The following guidelines are now in play:

- All side contests will occur within the actual raffle thread, and advertisement threads for raffles in Diagon Alley will also no longer be allowed as you could just bump the actual raffle thread.

- If you hold a raffle/contest and disappear for an extended period of time without notice, we will delete all funds that were gained by selling tickets.

- If you hold a raffle/contest and either refuse to give out prizes or something else determined to be cheating your account will be brought back down to zero, as in no money or items, even ones gained prior to the raffle.

- If you take more than 2 months to end a raffle/contest you will receive one warning by owl. Once it is determined that the owl was read/seen and nothing has been done you will be punished accordingly. It is up to the users partaking in the raffle/contest to report any problems.

- We will not be fixing any raffles or contests that go wrong, every contest you participate in is done at your own risk.

- Raffles/contests can be held in user store forums if you so wish, but you are subject to the same guidelines.

One last note is that there will be no more stickying or coloring of raffles. All users will be responsible for keeping their own thread afloat in DA. We hope that this will help keep everything more stream-lined and more fun.

Any questions/problems can be directed to Kitten050606, HPfanextrm, or Caleneledh.

New Site-Wide Layout

A new site-wide layout has been added to bring the site from winter to spring. It is titled, "Spring with Padfoot" and was made by JamesLondon. I particularly like this layout because of the very scenic background. Great job!

User Store Expansions

Shopkeepers and resident wizarding tycoons will be happy to learn that you can now make your stores bigger and better than ever...for a small fee.

Until now, only 52 items fit in a store at a time, and the maximum sale price of items in user stores was 25,000 Galleons. Those limits are a thing of the past. Stores can now be upgraded up to five times. With each upgrade, you are able to stock more items and price them higher than before.

So, how do you know if it's worth it for you? Take a look:

Upgrade Max Item Stock Sale Price Cap Cost to Upgrade
0. 52 Items 25,000 Galleons 2,000 Galleons (new stores only)
1. 70 Items 40,000 Galleons 15,000 Galleons
2. 95 Items 60,000 Galleons 35,000 Galleons
3. 125 Items 100,000 Galleons 50,000 Galleons
4. 175 Items 150,000 Galleons 85,000 Galleons
5. 250 Items 200,000 Galleons 135,000 Galleons

Things to keep in mind:
  • To upgrade an existing store (or to open a new store), click on Store in the Your Items section of the left-side navigation OR click HERE. It'll look something like this:
  • Upgrade "0" represents the initial item and price caps in a store; if you already have a store, this is what you already own, so you don't have to pay anything more. If you don't own a store, you can open one for 2,000 Galleons.
  • Upgrades can only be purchased in order. You will only be able to see the next upgrade available; when you purchase an upgrade, the next will become available.
  • Upgrades 4 and 5 must be UNLOCKED before they can be purchased. You can unlock them by meeting certain special requirements in your store.
Happy shopping!

J.K. Rowling's new book, The Casual Vacancy, comes out September 27th. What are your thoughts on her newest literary venture?

I've already pre-ordered it, of course.
It looks interesting, but I'll be waiting to see what other people think, first.
Don't really care either way.
A world without magic? Yeah right. Not on my watch.
Why won't she just write another Potter book?!
