Millions of years ago, creatures of epic proportions ruled the Earth. The dinosaurs, of course, were the most common and the most well-known. Unfortunately, about 66 million years ago something happened that ended the Cretaceous Period and wiped out all of the dinosaurs. Scientists are still uncertain about what exactly this catastrophic event was.

TASK
Over the years, scientists have thought up many explanations for how and why the dinosaurs went extinct. Each puzzle describes one theory introduced by paleontologists, and the answer to each can be found in the world search below. Your task is to solve each puzzle and, using your answers, complete the consequent word search.

PUZZLES
1. The most popular theory thus far posits that these objects brought about the extinction of the dinosaurs. It takes its evidence from the iridium found in layers of rocks from the Cretaceous Period, as well as from the Chicxulub crater in the Yutacan Peninsula.
2. Another theory also supports the discovery of iridium, as the metal can be found in the Earth’s core. It posits that this heated natural disaster would have originated in India, spreading dust and greenhouse gases around the globe until the dinosaurs all died.
3. While this third theory is easily debunked because it does not account for the extermination of many species of plants, it describes a more personal force that would have spread from smaller animals into large predators, killing the vast majority of life forms.
4. This fourth theory, too, is easily debunked, and was put forth as an earlier explanation for mass extinction. It describes a lackluster ratio of plants to herbivores that would have extended up the food chain, killing off many of the animals alive in that period due to a paucity of food.
5. The most plausible one for many years, this fifth theory states that a radical shift from humid temperatures to colder ones (in what eventually became the Ice Age) would have killed off all cold-blooded mammals; it has since been debunked by the existence of crocodiles, among other things.
6. This last theory is similar to the one that lists the Chicxulub crater as evidence, but also references the Boltysh, Silverpit, and Shiva craters as evidence that this phenomenon killed off the dinosaurs.

Can I include the answers to the riddles in the image of the crossword itself?

@JamesSiriusRemus The answers to the riddles must be recognizably separate from the solved word search; so, simply submitting the finished word search would not be a complete entry. But if you wanted to edit the answers to the riddles into a blank space somewhere in the image of the word search, that would be fine.

I use Paint, so I can increase the size of the image and separately list out the answers to the riddles after numbering them. Does that sound okay?

Is there any place we should be looking for these theories information - or ideas for them. I think Ive gotten the big three pretty easy, but finding the wording for the other three is really, really difficult. I've been trying for a few days now.

@BKat I'm sorry, but as those puzzles are based on trivia knowledge, I can't give you any hints as to what the answers are, or where you can find them. It's up to you to figure out how to answer them.

BBC off would be preferred, but it's not a big deal either way
