I pretty much agree with everyone else. I don't understand the point of it on Facebook. I think I tried it once and I check my friend's occasionally but I don't see why it's different than posting directly. :/

On Instagram at least there are usually funny things on them or they connect to tell a larger 'story' so that I get. Maybe FB is supposed to be like that and it's more about the different people who use FB or the different way people use FB?

Facebook has a stories feature? I knew Snapchat has it, but I haven't heard of Facebook using it too. I guess a moment would be story-worthy if you wanted to share it with everyone instead of just a couple people? Yeah, I don't know. I'm not a social media person.

Whether it be Facebook, Instagram, or SnapChat stories, we’re pretty sure you’ve seen one or two already. Maybe you’ve even tried using it yourself! What exactly makes a moment “Story-worthy”? How often do you add Stories into your own archive or have seen your friends’ own Stories? Tell us all about it as we continue our discussions for this month!

The only stories I use is Snapchat and Instagram. Honestly, I feel that the purpose of stories is to allow users to share their content in a way that does not interrupt their "aesthetics", especially on instagram, where there is a lot more focus on maintaining the aesthetic on one's newsfeed. People these days love learning more about their friends' lives and seeing what they've been up to, and I think stories are a way for these companies to capitalize on that, as users can share what they are doing at all times (which feeds into the narcissistic component of Snapchat/Instagram) and know that other users will look at these stories, due to our nature as nosy human beings.

I no longer use social media. I had Facebook for awhile but stopped after being hacked into multiple times. I had never heard of facebook using stories. I don't see the point. Just tell me in a few words what happened,

I use the stories feature on Instagram and I regularly view the stories of many accounts that I follow. I'm actually surprised by how much I prefer stories to photos they post on their page - they feel more natural and real. Most of the accounts I follow look like they have photo shoots for their page and then just post the photos on a schedule afterwards but their stories are happening in real time.
I don't use Snapchat and hardly use Facebook but I would guess that the stories feature on Facebook is quite similar to Instagram or is the same story, just shared between linked Instagram and Facebook accounts as I've seen the same stories images on both platforms from friends.

I've never used the stories feature on either Facebook or Instagram because I don't really see the point in doing so. I'm not much of a social media person to begin with (I rarely even post pictures on both of those platforms).

However, on instagram I do like to check out the stories of the people I'm following. I like to think it's more of an 'instant' thing that you can post as you're doing something (such as taking a video). But also I do like how there are features that let you have text or emojis over the image or video, unlike a regular upload.

I have seen the stories feature on my Facebook profile, and some of my Facebook friends have used it. Honestly, though, I can't be bothered to use it. I just want to keep my Facebook usage simple and not waste a lot of time creating stories or moments. I guess I'm too busy in real life - or would just rather spend more of my online time on HEX! I don't actually post very much on FB...mostly I just read my friends' posts to keep up with what they're doing. The privacy issue bothers me and a couple of times I've considered dropping my FB account altogether.

I'm not familiar with the stories feature on the social media platforms, but I am such a rookie when it comes to most of my accounts! I've used Facebook the most, but not recently. I've really only used Twitter and Instagram to follow others (and not that actively) or for Hex contests. It sounds like it could be a useful feature. But it seems like people here who are more proficient than me have given it mixed results.

I don't really look at or use the stories feature to be honest. I don't get the point of it? Maybe that's just me... but I prefer the normal FB posts and I don't see the purpose behind it. I guess it's to compete with Instagram?

CURRENT TOPIC

Whew! What a way to celebrate the first of April on HEX! #frustrating #fun #pranked

Whatever words fit your posts and experience about April Fools, it's going to be timely for our topic of the month anyway with hashtags!

Nowadays, almost every single post on social media has an accompanying hashtag and any word could be used! Got a classy and trendy outfit on? #OOTD. Watching a world-renowned tv series you just can't miss or get over with? #GameOfThrones. Are you tracking something on your blog? #hexrpg. Or maybe you're feeling fun and quirky and decided to create your own? #itotallymadethisup

So how do you use hashtags on social media? Do you use them often and on what platforms? What do you think is the appeal of using hashtags with posts? Tell us and maybe put a hashtag on it as we open April's first topic!

These questions are meant to get your minds pondering the topic; they are not meant to limit you. Make sure to keep checking this post - we will post a new topic for discussion twice a month!

Well, since I don't do social media the topic has no meaning to me. If I had an account I would not use hashtags. I think they are a complete waste of time. I have only used facebook and that was a long time ago. I hated it when people flagged posts or contacted me about a post unless I asked for the contact.

I don't use social media either, so I have no experience with hashtags. I guess they could be useful when it comes to searching for certain types of posts, though. Also, they can encapsulate the meaning of a post pretty well.

I use hashtags on instagram because they are one of the main ways of searching for pictures. I don't think the feature is used as much on Facebook. I certainly don't use them on there anyway, except sometimes in a jokey way e.g. #cantbebothered

I only use Facebook so hashtags don't get used by me. I have noticed alot of my friends use hashtags though. Not really sure of what the point is to use them on Facebook. I don't use instagram or Twitter. So if they are more useful on those platforms I have no idea.

I personally don't use hashtags since I feel that they are unnecessary. I'm not trying to give my personal social media posts exposure or anything, so there's no need to write any hash tags, as the point of those are to create a curation of related posts about that #hashtag. That being said, my dog's instagram is a totally different issue I don't mind people following that account so I like to hashtag it so that I can get likes and feel good that people like my dog

I like social media but I don't personally use hashtags for my own stuff. I know my friends sometimes use them ironically, but I spent a lot of time trying to set up my accounts so they'd be as private as possible. Using hashtags or key search terms seems counterproductive to that point.

Actually, now that I think about it, sometimes on specifically targeted social sites like Goodreads I'll use hashtags to sort my posts in case I want to find something later (for example, #kindle vs #libraryloan), but I probably should stop. Once in awhile a stranger will like something I've written or commented and it always weirds me out a little!

I did it a few times but for the rest of my stuff I often forget about it

I don't use social media. I dropped out when I read that the personal information you gave them was not kept private. I used to use facebook. I don't intend to use any of them because even if they are honest about keeping your info private, they can be hacked.

Hashtags? I never understood the appeal of using them. It's just two more typewriter keys I have to remember to use every time I post (I'm not sure if they are added automatically). I like getting to the point quickly.

I use hashtags for getting things noticed - like my blog posts and crafts. I use hashtags with all my instagram posts, but rarely use them on twitter and facebook. If I do use them on twitter and facebook it's quite often in a joke sense as opposed to something actually useful - that or referring to a topic that is already trending or using it to add to a discussion that uses a certain tag.

Yes I do use hashtags but more on Instagram than Twitter. I follow Natalie Dormer and Blake Lively hashtags so I can see what pics are being posted featuring them. I may or may not also be getting new photos for my phone.

I find hashtags are a good way to get your pictures out there as a lot of people can find pictures through hashtags as well.
