Why should you donate money to Hogwarts Extreme? The benefits of donating:
Helping Hogwarts Extreme as a Whole
Donations are needed to keep the site funded and to help it continue to grow into the future. You will be properly credited when you provide your Hex username in the donation process. The money donated is used to fund server expenses, along with server upgrades, maintenance, and other site wide costs.
Monthly Rare Items
Every month, two rare items are given out. Those that donate $10 will randomly receive one of the two. Those that donate $20 or more will receive both of the items. The items given for a certain month will never be given out again, so both items will remain very rare. Two new rare items are given out every month.
Six Month Rare
Every six months, a rare item is given out for those that have been on a subscription for six months or more. These items will be given at the beginning of July and the beginning of January. This also applies to people that have manually donated for six months or more, but getting a subscription is the preferred method.
Removal of Google Ads
Anyone that is on a subscription of $20 or more will have all Google Ads removed for them. The ads will be removed for as long as the subscription is active.
Automation
Hogwarts Extreme is now directly connected with PayPal. What this means is that your account on Hex will be credited automatically within 12 hours of making the donation. This ensures that you will receive proper credit on your user info page the entire following month, as well as receiving the item(s) in a timely manner the following month. Note: Even though Hex and PayPal are linked, PayPal never discloses credit card information, so transactions are still completely safe.

Subscriptions are a great way to make sure you get the monthly rare item every month. They can be cancelled at anytime, so you can have one for as long or not long as you like. (see right below)

Note Any subscription that is kept active for six months or more will result in the subscriber to receive the six month rare item (separate from the normal monthly two items).

$20 and up subscriptions result in having all Google Ads removed for the subscriber, for as long as the subscription is active.
$50 and up subscriptions allow you to have a forum title that you can customize in any way you want, as well as Google ad removal.

Common Donation Questions
I don't understand why donations are needed.
Hogwarts Extreme costs thousands of dollars a year to run. This does not include server upgrade costs, maintenance costs, and bandwidth related costs.
Is PayPal safe?
Yes, PayPal is completely safe. PayPal is used by leading providers like iTunes as a payment method. PayPal is the primary source of payment on Ebay and a lot of sellers will only accept it. PayPal is extremely safe, and trusted by Hogwarts Extreme. The connection is also SSL secure, ensuring maximum security.
Can I donate without a PayPal account?
Yes you can. When you click donate, look at the bottom right and it will say: "Don't have a PayPal account?" Simply click Continue and you are able to donate without one.
How rare are the items given out each month?
The items are always very rare. Since there are two items given out every month, and not everyone receives both, rarity is greatly increased on each of the items. (see Owl Search for more details on rarity ratings) After the items are given to the users that qualify to receive both, the items are then divided up evenly among those that randomly receive one to make sure maximum rarity remains. The item is never released again anywhere, ensuring that the rarity of the item will be maintained.
I have a friend on HEX that I want to receive the monthly item, can I donate again and provide their username?
Yes you can. After you make a donation for yourself with your username, you can make as many separate donations for each friend that you want to receive the rare item. (Just make sure you provide their username) Make sure that each donation for a friend is separate, not all in one. You can also create a subscription for your friend if you'd like.
If I donate multiple times in one month and provide my username each time, does that mean I will get the donation items of the month for each time I donated?
No, you will only get one of the two items, or both items once. (Depending on how much you donate, $10 for one of the two, $20 or more for both) Not allowing this makes sure the monthly item remains rare.
I still haven't received my item(s) for my donation!
First, know that you will not receive the month's item(s) until the following month. So if you donated in November, you will get the November item(s) in mid-December. (the next month) If you still have not received the item(s) and know that it was handed out, feel free to owl John.
I don't have a credit card but would gladly mail cash somewhere! Why isn't this option available?
Snail mail can be a tedious process and there simply is not enough demand for it to happen. If you want to let us know that you would mail cash donations if the option were available, Click Here.
Another method for people that don't have debit/credit cards is through a prepaid card. This is a card that you can buy from Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, etc. with cash at a retail store.
Typically, these prepaid cards are at stores like Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, Wal Greens, etc. Simply ask if they carry them and where to find them.
Prepaid cards work exactly like typical credit cards, except it is prepaid with cash, so you do not have to worry about the credit side of things.
Here are the steps of getting one and using it:
1) Go to your local retail store (typically the ones listed above) and purchase a prepaid Visa/Mastercard/American Express card.
2) After you purchase the card, you are free to spend it. Most prepaid cards require you to go to a website and register your card with your address and name (completely safe) so that when you make a transaction online, you have the information that is asked. (no way around this)
3) Then, to donate to HEX, simply click the donate button on this page, no PayPal account is required, and put in your card's number, expiration, and any other info it requests.
4) You're done! Just note that you cannot create subscriptions with the prepaid card.
Remember, anyone can purchase a prepaid card without having any obligations to it. The only obligation is having enough cash to make the purchase for it in the store.
